The weather forecast calls for sunshine today. But you never know...
Last week was a great picture of Pittsburgh weather in the spring. Beautiful 70 degree, sunshine-filled day followed by waking up to sub-freezing temperatures with an accumulation of snow on the ground. What can you do? You can complain about it. Which I did. You can hunker down and refuse to go out. Which I did. You can spend the day being miserable. Check. Or, instead of shutting down and doing nothing, you can respond. You can dig out the winter coat that you prematurely put away. You can turn the heat back on. You can get on with whatever you needed to accomplish that day, albeit with a slightly different game plan.
Life can be a lot like the weather. Everything is going along according to plan and then it throws you a curveball. You get in your car in the morning and it doesn't start. You finally get to work and the school calls with an issue with your child. An unexpected interruption disturbs your workflow. Someone comes into your office demanding your attention. The list goes on. What do you do?
When I was in the USMC PLC at Quantico, Virginia during college I learned the phrase, "Improvise, adapt, overcome." Everyone should aim to be proactive, not simply reactive. But often time things happen and we get thrown off our path. We must react and respond. How will you? Will you pull your head into your shell and turtle up or will you improvise, adapt and overcome?
The weather forecast calls for sunshine today. But you never know...
"These looming battles come in many forms and occur on many fronts, but each comes down to a critical choice: to demand victory or accept defeat. To pull together or fall apart. To give {effort} or cave in." From the USMC website.
