Weather Barrier: Revolutionising road construction

Road construction often faces the challenge of unpredictable weather, jeopardising crucial sealing processes and delaying progress. Modern weather changes including increased, rain, temperatures, and humidity all hinder productivity, often increasing the risk of failure for road construction.

Introducing Weather Barrier, a game-changing innovation from Road Science. This novel product accelerates the curing process of bitumen emulsions, enabling successful sealing even under unfavourable conditions.

Here's how Weather Barrier works:

Traditional cutbacks rely on a warm climate, and dry conditions for the chip to stick to bitumen. If there is rain, high humidity or low temperature before the chip has had enough time to stick, the surface will lose surface chips.

Traditional emulsions?rely on water evaporation and chip application to bind bitumen molecules,?a process that can take extended periods of time if the conditions are unfavourable.

Weather Barrier?significantly?reduces curing time by at least 50%,?allowing Road Science emulsions to fully cure in minutes.

Rapid curing has numerous benefits:

Reduced chip loss:?Faster curing minimizes the risk of chip loss due to rain in the early life of the seal.

Increased sealing frequency:?Crews can complete more seals in a shorter timeframe,?maximizing productivity.

Earlier site reopening:?Faster curing allows for quicker site reopening,?minimizing disruption to traffic flow.

Improved rain mitigation measures:?Weather Barrier provides a buffer against unexpected rain showers,?reducing project delays.

Since launching in 2022, Weather Barrier has been successfully implemented in various regions across New Zealand, including Auckland, Waikato, Christchurch, and Southland. Clients have experienced significant improvements in project efficiency and reduced risks associated with weather disruptions.

Over the coming weeks, we'll continue to share case studies that showcase how Weather Barrier helps road construction crews and clients. If you're interested in knowing more before then, visit our website: Weather Barrier - Road Science or talk to Darcy Rodgers.
