Did you sleep well? Silly question, I know, but there's something to be said about good sleep or lack thereof.
With everything going on around the world, do you feel that everyday should be world health day, not just a random day in April? If so, you are in great company. The last year has reminded us all, that our health determines our overall wealth. Joyce Meyer eloquently describes it with the quote below:
“I believe that the greatest gift that you can give your family and the world is a healthy you.” – Joyce Meyer
What does being wealthy mean to you, though? It's certainly much more than having extra money after our expenses. Wealth is the quality of our lives -- this cuts across every aspect. Be it spiritual, physical, social, emotional, professional and of course financial.
In the quest of building our wealth, we cannot ignore our health though. And what’s that got to do with your brand, you ask? It’s a personal thing for me, and below are my top three ideas to help bridge the gap between wealth & wellness in order to keep our brands sparkling.
1. Prioritise sleep: Carve out sleep time and don’t compromise on that, except for emergencies. That means having what they call sleep hygiene in the business. There’s even a charity called The Sleep Charity which shows that it's that serious a problem for many. My friend Rachel McGuinness, right here on LinkedIn is a top guru on sleep and knows the ins and outs of what to do the get your sleep groove on.
The flexibility of not having to catch a train into town every morning can make us almost lackadaisical in keeping a good bedtime routine - we sometimes work late and then have a lie-in the next day. We might even watch a boxset on Netflix just because we can. This freedom comes at a price and can mess with our sleep. Truth is, when we don’t sleep well, we don’t perform well.
2. Food/Exercise - the 80/20 rule: For long term weight management, we’re told 80% of our results come from good food choices and exercise is only 20%. Some of us don’t need motivation to exercise and we wish the reverse was true of the 80/20 rule. If the issue is food, lockdown has shone a bright light on our eating habits.
We have to be ready however, to change that dial on the scale, if we want to get into our designer jeans again or that gorgeous dress with the cinched waist. Whichever your main issue happens to be, why don’t you be kind to yourself and focus on just one thing. Doing more than one can be too much to start with. Personally, I am having a go at focusing on food choices to fuel my wellbeing and ultimately my wealth. Plus, I have my eye on that little black dress, you see.
3. Social wellness audit: As the saying goes, we are the sum total of the 6 people we surround ourselves with. Granted, lockdown has made it harder to be with some of our loved ones, but we have to start asking ourselves some hard questions. Who are we on the phone to? Do we feel energised or deflated after we come off the phone? Are we learning and edifying one another? How much social media is consuming our time?
"Truth is, when we don’t sleep well, we don’t perform well."
Is it worth considering a social wellness audit of who and what fuels and nourishes our spirit? Perhaps challenge ourselves to engage better and strategically, by giving more and being more in the right space with the right people? In the end, if we commit to taking care of our wellbeing, the less time we will have for those areas that don't serve us.

Early May signals international labour/workers days around the world so might it be an idea to use the national holidays to take some rest to refresh and recharge? Absolutely - we are going to take advantage of that at Lyncs HQ, for sure -- it’s been pretty full on here and we all deserve a wee break.
Here is to a marvellous May; to your wellbeing and to your ultimate wealth!
