Wealth and the Poor: 2 different views

Wealth and the Poor: 2 different views

I have said many times that I often speak to the rich and poor in the same day. They actually live in two totally different worlds. It is often said that if you change the way you look at things the things you look at will change.

Current conversation with the wealthy. You should never charge or go into debt. That is how you build wealth. You should put money away every week. The poor just don't how to manage money. You should buy stock, invest in land or start a business. The poor are uneducated and not willing to work. I am not taking advantage of people by charging high interest rates. That is just business. If they can't manage their money that is their fault.

Same conversation with the poor. I want to save money. I wish I had a job with a 401k instead of working for peanuts and never getting ahead. Every time I get a little saved up something goes wrong with the car, the kids get sick or some other unexpected expense. If I had a better job I could save for a rainy day or invest. I can't afford health care so I either don't go to the doctor or I put it on the charge card just to keep myself alive and able to work. I can't afford to get the car fixed. If I had a better job I could buy a better car that actually runs all the time. I can't afford to get my car out of the shop so I am taking the bus this week.

To some people $4 is a Starbucks coffee to others it is a meal for four people. Many wealthy came from a family of wealth. They never had to go hungry or wear used clothing. Children are conditioned by their parents and follow their example. There are exceptions of course. We admire people who started out poor and broke the mold into wealth. We all love the story of the underdog. What a world it would be if more people mentored others. What if we helped each other so that as a country we could prosper?
