Wealth Choices Beyond the Vortex: Thriving from a new Foundational Reference Point

In the attached blog post (1) Joel Runyon invites us to examine “Reference Points” as a mechanism to help us achieve the “impossible” (or more accurately, those things we currently deem or once deemed “impossible”).

I had referred to this blog in a previous article (2) (Time to (Re)Tune Your Clock Speed?) and invite you to harness the power of this “Reference Point” approach to achieve those things that matter most to you.

In this previous article I had suggested that in a world where speed, competition and results often determine our “default” mode of operation, is it time to examine how well, or not, such a “default mode” is serving us, our families, our careers/businesses and our society?

It is all too easy to focus on (and even get distracted by) the “priority” business goals and objectives (financial targets, financial forecasts, financial ROI…) at the expense of losing yourself and your teams in the Vortex and pressure of modern “best business practice”. Are there refinements we can choose to consider that better balance business needs and personal quality of life?

For years (even decades) many people have been noticing the signs of overwhelm, tiredness and even exhaustion in their daily lives. Many people have come to accept this as being an essential part of modern living. Is it?

It is becoming clearer that an increasing number of people are recognizing that something has to change. More and more people are ready to make choices that may have seemed impractical or “impossible” before now (work location, work hours, type of work, deliberate choice to spend more time with family…).

In creating the space to examine and critique “current and accepted best business (lived) practice” we create the opportunity to redefine what “wealth” really means and improve our lives and the lives of those around us, from our (and their) inside out.

What if we invest time in examining and exploring better, more efficient, and more meaningful ways of living and of doing business? This process has begun in earnest since Covid. Many organizations are, and have been, actively readjusting to the evolving demands of people who are prepared to make choices they may have considered impractical or “career-limiting” in the past.

Over the coming 6 months, and starting today, I am inviting you to create space that allows you to examine and critique what is working well in your life/career/business and where you have opportunities to tweak, tune and refine your priorities.

No other person necessarily needs to know you are embarking on this “inner review”, and you decide how far and how quickly you open this door. One thing is sure, other people will notice the difference when you begin to experience the benefits of this “inner review” work emerging. How and when those benefits emerge is an inherent part of the journey, once you choose to engage in this process.

You choose what gets focus and priority. You choose the pace. You choose how to best balance your priority needs while respecting the needs of other people in your life/career/business too.

No one can do this work for you and that is why I have created a stripped-down modular framework (see attached graphic) that invites you to begin you “inner review” work with some fundamental questions, as the starting point towards creating a new Foundational Reference Point.

The beauty of this work is that it can begin anytime and realistically it never ends – if that sounds too scary or too open ended, I would suggest that this is the perfect time for you to open the door, even slightly ajar, and peek outside the Vortex of your current life.

You decide how much, or little time, or effort you invest in this process. It may go from 6 seconds to 6 minutes to 6 hours over weeks, months or decades. How You integrate and “make sense of” all your experiences and what you truly care about is all that ultimately matters.

This is your opportunity to act and engage gently from your inside out in creating a Reference Point that truly respects who you are and what you stand for, from within. From this inner foundation you choose if, when or even how ready you are to more openly operate with improved confidence and clarity from this space (of inner strength).

In the coming months, I will be sharing some tools and techniques that I have built into my personal practice and would like to invite you to blend tools and techniques that work for you into your developing framework.

Please feel free to use this framework to help you navigate (or reaffirm) your true path. Better still, create a version of this framework, or any model you choose, to help you gain improved clarity on what true wealth means to you.

The choice is Yours.

I have added some additional resources you may find useful to help get started. I will add more and build out the framework over the coming months.

Enjoy the journey.

What a thought-provoking topic Seamus Power! Wealth seems to be more and more scarce! Quite understandably since so many are after the same. Wealth is now to do with financial means, period. We used to speak of emotional wealth, spiritual wealth, natural wealth, but who cares about all this now. Wealth is now limited to one question I am constantly asked: "Hi, would you like to become a 6-digit income coach?" When I say NO, what a disappointment to the one asking. Thank you Seamus for your question.

Thank you, Seamus, for sharing this concept about "overclocked". The world is moving at "warp speed", and it is "not" necessarily providing us with more efficient or effective ways of being. In my opinion, the inability to slow down and get still doesn't allow us to tap into the "inner wisdom" which helps us make better decisions as we start to take actions from "intuitive guidance". Those are the actions/decisions which serve both the individual and the collective in a much better way...
