The Weaknesses of AI and the Risks

Starting with the most obvious - it's Not original content.

You already know what I know. AI is borrowing elements of human generated text and modifying some phrases and words with their synonyms. In other cases, it summarizes the human generated text into a shorter format.

While this is fine for brief Google searches, it runs the very real risk of making people even lazier when it comes to accessing the actual articles written by humans. It leaves out the VITAL context and nuance that a human mind brings to information.

The point of communication is for people to communicate with people.

When commenting on anything digital, there's a real risk that you are discussing with a robot and thus wasting your energy.

When we exchange ideas with another person, there is the genuine knowledge that we are participating in the "shared learning" that sets we as humans apart from other species.

We can learn an idea simply from the words of another human: If I say, "this plant is poisonous." you don't have to witness someone getting sick to understand. You see the plant. You hear my words and have now learned to avoid that plant.

When AI intercepts this dialogue, it's a waste of our most valuable asset: internPERSONal communication.

Dangerous false "research" articles being AI generated

Research Journals are battling with the same things that other industries are: identifying the AI generated "research" and refusing to publish it.

I am happy to hear that a vetting process is in development for some research journals BUT in the meantime, fake articles with NO physical research and data are being generated, giving claims about health, social interactions and more.

This is a truly dangerous component as once again, OUR Strongest Asset is the ability for Shared Learning. This AI puke-fest is tainting that sacred component of humanity.

Loss of genuine skill or developing excellence

On a more personal note, will you ever learn to better communicate when an AI offers to "polish" your email for you? or offers to "summarize your colleague's message" so that you don't have to read the whole thing?

Increased risk of conflict due to miscommunication

90% of human communication is not in the text of the words. 90% is composed of cultural understanding, humor, nuance, and of course, tone of voice and body language.

While email and text do not include body language, they can include subtle hints of tone that an AI will not understand. An AI can never capture the humor, nuance and cultural understanding part of communication.

When an AI is summarizing or "polishing" your messaging it is deleting our shared cultural learning and humor and nuance that is such a vital component of our human society.

Loss of idea formation and creativity

When you write a message, and then review it, you ever notice how often you update and make it better? That's because your brain has an incredible capacity to generate ideas and be creative.

When you allow the AI to write for you, you rob yourself of that opportunity for ideas and creativity.

What we should be using AI for instead:

Personally, there are some great uses for AI. For example,

1. an AI can review data and locate dangerous messages about criminal activity or terrorism.
2. An AI can review millions of scientific measurements and point out the trends and the outliers more easily.
3. An AI could be used to locate items or lost persons in places that are too dangerous for a human.
4. An AI could be used to scan for needed infrastucture repairs of light poles, roadways, and bridges.
5. An AI could be used to pick up debris in the middle of a highway to avoid a person getting hit by oncoming traffic.

I could keep going.

The Point is that

AI should be used to solve problems just like any other technology. It should not Coddle humanity into weak-minded blobs with weakening communication skills and a loss of original thought.
