"Weak people revenge, Strong People Forgive & Intelligent People Ignore" Transformational Leadership learnt from Gautama Buddha ........
Transformational Leadership is a process that changes & transforms people. It involves an exceptional form of influence that moves followers to accomplish more than what is usually expected of them .
Over 2500 years ago, the Buddha showed us an example of Transformational Leadership & proclaimed an eight-fold path for ending suffering.
The Eight fold Path as described by Lord Buddha consists of eight practices:
1. Right view : Everything in life is impermanent, according to the Buddha.
Right View means understanding that life is just a magic show. It is transitory.
Even enjoying pleasures in life is impermanent, because you know they will eventually fade or go away. That's the key to leadership . The right emotional intelligence & balance in thought process.
2.Right resolve : " Being resolved on renunciation, on freedom from ill-will, on harmlessness: This is called right resolve."
What it does mean is working to steadily improve yourself, It means intending good will and harmlessness towards all beings (including yourself).
Similarly Transformational Leaders become social architects. They make clear the emerging values & norms of the organisation .
3.Right speech :Words are magic . They create the reality for us . Right Speech means not lying, not speaking divisively or abusively, and not engaging in idle chatter and gossip. Transformational leaders need to be clear on their own values & philosophy. Exemplary leaders set a personal example for others by their own behaviour. They follow through their promises & commitments and affirm the common value they share with others .
4.Right conduct or action : Right Action means being morally upright in your actions, and not acting in corrupt or harmful ways.
Effective leaders create compelling visions that can guide people's behaviour & drive them to right action.Through inspiring visions ,leaders challenge others to transcend the status quo to do something good for others . ?
5.Right livelihood : Right Livelihood is not making your living in a way that creates suffering for other beings.
"Where a disciple of the noble ones, having abandoned dishonest livelihood, keeps his life going with right livelihood: This is called right livelihood."
Transformational Leaders are highly ethical & score very high on integrity .Leadership is a process by which the leader influences others to reach a common goal. Hence Ethics is central to Leadership .
6.Right effort : "Non-confusion, increase, plenitude, development, & culmination of skillful qualities that have arisen: This is called right effort."
The Transformational leaders are skillful, persistent. They are clear on their goals & enable others to act & put right efforts to get the ask done . They build trust with others & promote collaboration & always put right efforts .
7. Right mindfulness :Right Mindfulness means staying present and aware of yourself, reality and your place in reality.
"And what is right mindfulness? ardent, alert, & mindful — putting aside greed & distress with reference to the world. This is called right mindfulness...
Similarly , To create change Transformational leaders become alert & mindful ,thus always encourage the heart of their followers. Effective leaders are always attentive to the need of their followers.
8.Right ‘Samadhi’ (Right concentration) :Right Concentration means meditation.
"Purity of equanimity & mindfulness, neither pleasure nor pain. This is called right concentration."
Transformational leadership has an intuitive appeal. People are attracted to transformational leaders because it makes sense to them . It is appealing that a leader will provide vision for the future. Transformational Leadership is fundamentally morally uplifting .
