How to Start and Run a Mastermind Group

How great would it be to hear these words from someone, or a group of people, who truly meant it! How would you feel hearing these words being said with feeling and conviction? 

Would the words help to build your confidence? Do you think that kind of support would help strengthen your conviction towards whatever you are working on? How much more motivated would you feel? 

This is the kind of power and impact a true Mastermind Group can have on a person, or a company. 

If you are not familiar with what a mastermind group is, Napoleon Hill defined the concept in his landmark book Think and Grow Rich as:

“Coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people, for the attainment of a definite purpose.”

Napoleon goes on to say that with the proper set-up and use of a mastermind group, “… your objective will have been halfway reached, even before you begin to recognize it.”

Wow, based on these few words it certainly seems that developing a mastermind group can be a very smart thing to do as we set off to “conquer the world”! The great thing is that you get to define what conquering the world means to you. Just fill in the blank!

So, what can you use a mastermind group for? Truth be told, you can use one for anything you want. You can create one for

• Improving your current business 
• Improve your health
• Increase your wealth
• How to improve a relationship

Starting a Mastermind Group

The process starts when you determine an objective that you want to accomplish. Most things that are important require some help to accomplish them. That is when you decide if you want to put together a mastermind group to support your effort. If you do, then you should closely consider what value you can provide to those people you will be asking to support you. Do not expect anyone to do something for you without being willing to provide some value in return. 

The next step is figuring out who you want / need in the group. You should look for the person / people that would be committed to your success and the success the group. You should look for people with the needed skills that can help in achieving success. It would also be good to look for people that are strategic thinkers and problem solvers. Virtually every worthwhile venture / goal will run into some challenges. Strategic thinkers / problem solvers can help you work through the situation to decide the best way to deal with it. 

Once the group is formed, then you will want to figure the details about when you will meet, where you will meet, how your meetings will be organized, will you need meeting agenda’s, how will each member of the group participate, etc. It will help the group’s success when everyone has a clear understanding of its purpose and the rules they will operate under. 

The next step is to start meeting on a regular basis and start working towards the achievement of the goal!

Benefits of a Mastermind Group

The benefits of having a mastermind group can be many, but a few of the key ones include:

• The mutual support from each member can be very motivating and empowering. It can build confidence and strengthen conviction to do whatever it takes to achieve the desired results.
• As you run into issues (and you will run into issues) the collective genius of the group helps to determine the best options by asking simple questions like “What if you did …?” 
• Another very important aspect of the mastermind group is the accountability it provides. There will be days / weeks where you won’t want to do what you know you need to do. But knowing that the group will be asking you what you have been doing can help you get through those moments of lower motivation. 

So the question is what would you like to achieve in your life but just don’t know how to go about it? The answers you need can be answered, but it will likely take a mastermind group to help you through the process. Nothing is impossible when you put the right people together to work on it.
