Rising labor productivity acts as a domino-effect for economic growth, higher wages, and enhanced living standards.
The sectors using AI the most (financial services, information technology, and professional services) are seeing labor productivity grow almost fivefold (4.8x) greater than sectors with lower AI exposure (such as transport, manufacturing and construction).[1]?Yet, for a third of HR leaders, Gen AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) have brought no benefits to workforce productivity[2], while only 27% of employees expect that AI and/or automation will improve how their job is done over the next three years.[3]
Clearly, technology doesn't always deliver. To cement future success, business leaders will need to lay the groundwork today to ensure AI is playing its part not only in boosting performance, but making work more accessible. Cue the AI-augmented operating system (AOS). | Ravin Jesuthasan, CFA, FRSA
The integration of AI agents into cash management systems promises to revolutionize how we optimize interest earnings. We can envision AI agents who act on behalf of retail investors, others who optimize financial advisors` workflows in a personalized manner for each client, and last but not least AI agents who are angels on the side of corporate Treasurers. | Efi Pylarinou
Munger tells this oft-quoted story about how profits move in a value chain on the introduction of a new technology:
?When we were in the textile business, one day, the people came to Warren and said, “They've invented a new loom that we think will do twice as much work as our old ones.” And Warren said, “Gee, I hope this doesn't work because if it does, I'm going to close the mill.”
He knew that the huge productivity increases that would come from a better machine introduced into the production of a commodity product would all go to the benefit of the buyers of the textiles. Nothing was going to stick to our ribs as owners.
And it isn't that the machines weren't better. It's just that the savings didn't go to you. The cost reductions came through all right. But the benefit of the cost reductions didn't go to the guy who bought the equipment. It's such a simple idea. It's so basic. And yet it's so often forgotten.
Yes! It's so basic, And yet it's so often forgotten.

This is a tale as old as technology itself. And , it's playing out with Gen AI all over again | Sangeet Paul Choudary
Sure, I'd be happier if everyone was working from a Vision Pro and if the Meta Orion glasses were stocking ready for the holidays, rather than a few years away. And I'd be elated if all the companies building these headsets would commit in a real, sustainable way to funding content creators, rather than launching and killing funds. But 2024 did see several tentpole moments in the XR space, with the Vision Pro coming to market earlier this year, Pico releasing quality headsets in the fall; Meta announcing Orion at Connect; and Google and Samsung closing the year with a new headset launch. The fact that all these companies continue to invest in new hardware at least is a sign that they are taking the market seriously and believe that it has room for growth. | Cortney Harding
