The Universe played a nasty joke on us all which turned out not to be a joke but serious reality. Where ever you are I sincerely hope you are healthy, safe and have the necessary means to sustain yourself in these upsetting circumstances. I will not attempt to give yet another dose of COVID-19 advise. I have finished the book The Neuro Generation by Tan Le last night. Through this book I came across https://www.bbvaopenmind.com/. Since 2008, BBVA has published, through OpenMind, a collection of books dedicated to the analysis of the central issues of our time. These books, which are published once a year, are collections of articles written by leading international experts that deal from different perspectives, with the questions that affect our lives and which are shaping our future. Globalization, ethics, innovation, the future of Europe, technological and scientific advances and their impact on the future of the economy and society are just some of the issues that have been addressed so far. All their books are available free of charge. You just need to download it. https://www.bbvaopenmind.com/en/books/ Their latest book was published end of 2019 “Work In The Age Of Data”. Please download it or any of the other.
Salim Ismail writes in his book “Exponential Organizations” that the construction industry is ripe for disruption. 3D printers constructing buildings or portions of buildings, artificial intelligence, Building Information Modelling, Robotics etc., are all contributing to shake the world we are familiar with. I believe we stand at a threshold in the construction industry and we have been standing at it for a while. Our moment at the threshold will not last for ever. While we are at the threshold we have the opportunity to contribute and disrupt ourselves. Once we have crossed the threshold the moment to contribute has passed.
I hope you find at least one article in one of their books that will make you think about the industry we are in and how we can better it by adapting and contributing to the change that will take place whether we want it or not. Let’s disrupt ourselves rather than be disrupted by someone or something else.
MLC Quantity Surveyors always strive to stay ahead of the crowd and to embrace change. In this time, which is defined by much more than COVID-19 we want to assure you of our availability and excellence.
We often work at risk during stage 1 to 3 of a typical construction project thus limiting your risk. Let us know how we can assist with your next project.
