Are we thinking about our wellness enough?

The dictionary defines ‘wellness’ as the state of being in good health. Leading the busy lives that we do, especially coping with the fast urban pace, we still try our best to manage our physical wellness. Thanks to the awareness being created around wellness, more people than ever are taking up running, sports and hitting the gym for physical fitness. Many are also getting conscious about eating right. But does wellness begin and end with being physically fit? Think about it.
A large part of the population spend a majority of their time at the workstation, or on bed and a holistic approach to wellness, to be in a ‘state of being in good health’ therefore should include these two important aspects of our life.
Home is where you want to return to at the end of the day. Now picture yourself coming back to it after a long, hard day of work. You want to keep all the stress outside the door as you step in. And once you do, you are in a space that keeps you happy, stress-free; this is your escape from the urban cacophony. In that case, your home should contribute to your state of wellness. I have been giving this some thought, wondering how much attention we can give our homes. Do we devote enough time in its upkeep? Similarly, are we just content with regular sessions at the gym when it comes to physical well-being? We sometimes forget to focus on our sleep - which is essential for physical and mental wellness.
Poor sleeping habits can lead to several issues. Some obvious, many surprising! From heart ailments, blood pressure issues to loss of concentration, it is a much more serious problem than we think and we shouldn’t turn a blind eye to it. A few cases from the past notify that sleep deprivation can sometimes lead to major mishaps like Chernobyl and the Three Mile Island disasters.
So, whether sound sleep or a healthy living space, or the workplace, it is about time we begin to look at wellness in a more holistic manner.
This very idea of wellness remains at the centre of everything we do, and how we can create thoughtful products for our consumers. Emphasis is laid on innovations and embracing technology for the very reason that we can provide our customers maximum comfort; we can assure that it is their well-being that is always on our minds.
Charcoal, for example is currently ‘the’ buzzword in skin care. With its several benefits, an increasing number of people are embracing charcoal in self-care products. At Welspun too, we have integrated it in our products; charcoal woven into our fabrics providing odour control is one such example. We are constantly looking at more such innovative ideas and on the role we can play in promoting wellness. Be it our Nanocore technology that prevents dust mites and other allergens from entering, or even the patented Hygrocotton technology for ultra-soft, absorbent fabric that regulates temperature, we are invested in such ideas to ensure better living for our customers.
And, so we at Welspun are guided by the idea of ‘wellness effortlessly’. Our initiatives, simply put, are aimed at making life easy. Let us together strive to achieve that state of being in good health. We owe it to ourselves.
Stress is inevitable and so the key to minimise its inference, is to maintain discipline. For me personally, six to seven hours of good sleep is an absolute must. While it is important to work-out regularly for physical fitness, I firmly believe it is also imperative that you invest yourself in hobbies or activities that you are passionate about. Being a trained in Kathak dance, my practice helps me unwind and relaxes my body and soul. While classical dancing and restful sleep does the trick for me. I urge you all to take some time out and ponder on your overall wellness!
