We take a closer look at the Vauxhall Vivaro-e. Winner of International Van of the Year 2021
We have tested a range of electric commercial vehicles in the market now so we thought we would share how the Vauxhall Vivaro-e is shaping up.
To start, we can’t help but be impressed that the all-electric Vauxhall Vivaro-e has been named the 2021 International Van of the Year – taking home one of the most coveted awards in the light commercial vehicle sector. This is the first time a fully electric van has won the overall title, the Vivaro-e was praised for its extensive zero emissions range, excellent load capacity and high levels of technology.
The Vauxhall Vivaro-e is capable of up to 205 miles from a single charge, supports up to 100kW rapid charging with an 80% charge taking 30 minutes for 50kWh models and 45 minutes for 75kWh variants.?
With a pay load of 1,226kg the Vivaro-e suits the needs of all business and private users and is crucially exempt from current congestion and ultra-low emissions charges.?
Available in three trim levels, Panel Van Dynamic, Panel Van Elite and Doublecab Elite, all models come with rear parking sensors, automatic headlights, cruise-control with speed limiter and a 7-inch touchscreen as standard.
Like all electric vans, the Vivaro-e's relatively high purchase price has to be set against the significant low maintenance costs and no road tax, but this is not a problem if you contract hire. However, Vauxhall itself estimates you can save about £100 a month compared to a 2.0-litre diesel Vivaro, based on covering 40 miles a day at a per-mile cost of 2.1p in the Vivaro-e, versus 10.3p for the diesel. And it’s so quiet! ?Zero emissions apply not only to exhaust fumes but to noise pollution as well. The Vivaro- e is remarkably quiet so ideal vehicle for busy urban areas and residential streets.
The Verdict
The mid-sized electric van segment is certainly heating up, most notably from the Nissan e-NV200 and and Mercedes-Benz eVito, but we feel the electric Vauxhall Vivaro-e sets a new standard – not just for medium sized electric vans but electric vans full stop.?
