We are such stuff as dreams are made on, and our little life is rounded with a sleep
I am not one for dramatics, neither do I indulge in doomsday discourse… however this
comment by Prospero has left its mark in my life. He reminds us that life can end quickly; a
truth relevant to all.
We have but one life on this planet and should embrace each moment and every
opportunity to make it count. We should live each day with this weighty thought… what
impact have I left behind?
Let’s do a quick activity. Think about the last interaction you had before you read this post.
Perhaps you interacted with a petrol attendant, conducted a performance review, tucked
your child into bed, bought groceries, paid for a haircut, fetched your cat from the vet etc
What moment did you leave behind? Was it a moment of magic, mediocrity or misery?
Another activity if you will. When you expire, what would you want loved ones to say
about you at your funeral?
Whatever you want them to say needs to be a reflection of how you lived your life,
consistently and authentically…

I am not an expert of mortality through education, I am however a cancer survivor who was
given 4 months to live in 2014, so by this alone and by default – I think I know.
I can tell you… the last thing you think of when passed such a sentence, is not what you
have accumulated in your life. I can guarantee you, the first thing that comes to mind are
the people you love. The memories you won’t make, the laughter you won’t hear, the
significant events in their lives where you won’t be present…
Again, I remind you that I am not one for dramatics, far from it. My point is simply this… we
should live our lives not as a snapshot moment but rather with consideration of who we are
as human beings and the impact we leave behind.
We should live with the understanding that every interaction is a moment for magic and
each person we engage with is important.
Let’s be better humans??
