We Are Stronger Together
Springing Into Action
The pandemic has been tough for all national leaders, but the only real mistake is the one you learn nothing from. Boris has presented himself with many opportunities for some very sharp and steep learning.
The first-class vaccine roll out has repaired a lot of previous damage. This proves you are as good as your most recent performance. Much has been forgiven by the rapid and professional vaccination drive.
We had been fed so many false dawns and over hyped optimism from Boris and his cabinet. They were complacent, arrogant and out of touch with most of us.
People can see some light at the end of the long tunnel and there are the beginnings of a buzz of optimism starting to circulate around the country.
Empathy with the public overall, has proved to be a stretch for Boris and his cabinet, but when compared to Priti, Gavin, Matt and Co., Boris has recently shone brightly.
It would have been far more helpful if he had taken an honest interest in the facts and figures from the start, rather than favouring a desperate rally cry to his base delivered with a simple strapline. His reputation and trust with the electorate has been damaged.
When incidents occur, ministers will try to cover things up to save face. Boris had to be straight and honest by calling them out, and holding them to account. He didn’t.
He has always instantly covered up for all the underperformance and major gaffes of his cabinet. No one has been reprimanded. Leadership should never be just a popularity contest.
As the spring weather, sunshine and vaccinations have swept across the nation, it is the public who have pushed hard to make sure this lockdown is the last.
?We are so much stronger when we come together.

4 年Interesting perspective René! I don't really engage in political posts but fairness is really important to me, especially in a media environment where we increasingly judge without suggesting alternative or better solutions. - As a non-Tory, I was massively impressed that Science and Evidence took centre stage from day one. The government followed the data, brought scientists onto the stage and indeed used science and evidence in a way that I've never seen it employed by politics. - We've led the world in collaboration, not just in terms of the pharma vaccine development, genome sequencing etc but actually facilitating relationships across universities and governmental research institutes If there's one criticism it's that we didn't close the borders early enough (which is what led to the small number of cases in other island/isolated nations). But I believe that was also an act of BRAVE LEADERSHIP, and in itself was the right decision at the time - trying to balance saving lives/stopping the spread, with demands on the NHS, v keeping the economy open - with the data available. Easy to criticise in hindsight, but has there ever been tougher calls for a Leader, maybe even including world wars. What excites me though, is that the steel of a great leader is forged in the furnace, so if this government can now turn what should be a strong team to building brand britain, our shared values, and what we stand for the in the world, then that will be a great leadership legacy...
