We stress or "Eustress"
I am going to drop this word right here - "eustress" because I learned it recently and it is such a cool find. It is a stress reaction that is completely opposite to what many of us are feeling these days! With the COVID-19 pandemic pandemonium and quarantines leaving some of us "distressed", I want to challenge you to learn about " eustress". The prefix “eu” means "well" as in euphoria so eustress produces positive feelings of excitement, fulfillment, joy and well-being!
Healthline.com did an article called "Eustress: The Good Stress". It quoted clinical psychiatrist Dr. Michael Genovese who explained, "We rarely think of stress as a positive thing, but eustress is just that — positive stress. Exciting or stressful events cause a chemical response in the body. Eustress is usually a product of nerves, which can be brought on when faced with a fun challenge."
In researching this word it was fascinating to find how eustress can play into our work, home and well being.
So here are my eustressors so far:
A plank challenge - 62 year old George Hood has the record for holding a plank for over 8 hours! I am eustressing to get to 3 minutes.
Or the challenge by my Sister for me to get back in the kitchen and perfect my local fruit vinaigrettes to pair with our salads.
Continue to create my brand and coordinate speaking webinars.
Whew! Looking at all these make me excited and too busy to be distressed with what is happening around.
What about you? What will be your challenge for eustress?
