We are "stoned" if we do, and we are "stoned" if we don't.

We are "stoned" if we do, and we are "stoned" if we don't.

‘It isn’t fair, it isn’t right’. — Tessie Hutchinson

Tessie is right, for the system isn't fair. Still, the burning question here is, what is fair to Tessie? The stones are coming to hit her now; however, if another person — say one of her family members or a friend was about to get stoned — would Tessie claim it was still unfair?

You see what Shirley Jackson is depicting here through the behavior of Tessie is that the practice of hitting a human with stones isn't truly unfair until it is your turn to get hit by the stones. Our society still thinks the way Tessie does. It is always funny to laugh at others until the laughs get turned to you.

Then, we want to bitch and come on to some social media site and bitch about some injustice in our life. We all do it at one point or another. Are there really any suitable solutions for the rants? Well, one can do something about the injustice, but the results could be dire long-term. Live another day or jail? Live another day or the grave?

Again, Tessie is right about the system, for we are "stoned" if we do, and we are "stoned" if we don't.
