We are still talking about AI, right?

Hello!

I feel like the weld-flash bright light of AI is finally starting to dull down - I mean, keep your dark glasses on in case I'm wrong, but there seems to be a subtle shift in what people think AI can do - and what it is actually capable of.

The realisation that ChatGPT is happy to simply make s**t up in order to respond to a prompt is underscored by its gormless honesty about doing so:

I apologize for any confusion caused. The statistics I provided were fabricated for illustrative purposes and are not real. If you're looking for accurate and up-to-date statistics on email marketing, I recommend consulting reputable sources such as industry reports, marketing research organizations, and data-driven marketing platforms.

In other words 'Human, DYOR!'

ChatGPT is not, no matter which version you use - free or paid, a research tool. It is however, a brilliant efficiency tool which works in ways I'm not sure we really understand yet.

But one of the surprising things it is doing - and which I believe is why it is so exciting (and somewhat alarming) - is taking a load off the cognitive load.

By knocking out what is essentially a first draft (no matter how bad it is) AI is leapfrogging our creative process from let's think of an idea, to 'now try to articulate that idea', and landing us in the 'I can make this so much better' creative space.

What I wonder is; is AI so good or are we simply stuck thinking that writing is only good if it's done by a human - language is after all, a set of rules which systemise how we communicate - there is a whole part of writing which absolutley can be done by a machine (correcting that typo on-the-fly is one of them) leaving humans to be the crazy creatives we hold ourselves up to be.
