A decade ago if an employee wanted to work from home, that was considered as not working at all. However today, you could be sitting in your couch or working from a cafe and still getting your work done in your full-time job. Thanks to technology and the changing work culture which offers more flexibility, today your performance is not measured by the number of hours that you spend in your cubicle rather it is all about what you bring to the table. Some companies have a completely remote team where they work out of cafes or coworking spaces.
Internet has played an integral part in bringing in this flexibility, we don’t really need to bat our office to make presentations or receive a client call. The world is a close knit community now.
A study by Stanford University found that the work productivity increases when working remotely and remote workers tend to stick with their current jobs and take less leaves. They have a better work-life balance and less stress compared to their counterparts who have ‘traditional desk jobs’. The companies which encourage their employees to work remotely save on rental costs while exceeding company goals. It is a win-win situation for all.
There has been an increase in the number of people who prefer working in non-traditional corporate roles who grew up on technology and believe in flexibility. The growing trend of working remotely would also work in favor of women who give up their careers to spend more time with family and also for working professionals who would like to continue working after celebrating their 60th birthday.
Remote working teaches you self discipline and helps you better manage your time. You have less stress commuting to work and bumping into a colleague you’d rather avoid. You get the comfort of your home or a space of your choice , you don’t need to put on your ‘office noise’ cancellation device and at the end you get YOUR WORK DONE!
So is working remotely just another trend or here to stay?
