Tarte and the third era of influence?
Cosmetics company Tarte faced backlash for being ‘out of touch’ when it took a group of influencers to Bora Bora. While pre-pandemic this kind of content was commonplace, times have changed along with the values of younger generations. This backlash is a prime example of how we’re entering a new era of influencer marketing, one in which the value exchange is shifting. Our Global Head of Research & Insight, Paul Greenwood, wrote about what this means for brands’ influencer strategies in MediaPost.

Creators hit back against pointless long form content?
A group of creators are mocking the wealth of TikTok and Instagram content that’s long in length, but short on substance. Consider Yoon’s 55 second TikTok titled “watch me find mold in my dumplings,” which he stitches and summarises with his signature anti-influencer, dry monotone in a matter of seconds: “She thought that the spring onion was mold, so she stopped eating.” The creators are calling out user-unfriendly enshittification of platforms – pointing to a new era of user awareness and pushback against platform decay.
