VISION INSPIRES PEOPLE

– Someone to believe in.

Has there ever been a better time for becoming someone to believe in? This is the perfect storm for a purpose-driven leader. There has never been a better time for re-assessing your organizations' vision. Is it big enough? Is it inspiring enough?

The fascinating thing we find about vision today is that most visions are too small and not that inspiring. How inspirational it would be to have a vision of what already is, or certainly a given. That would be lackluster at best and far from inspirational. The market has changed through the global financial crisis, the pandemic, and climate change and this has caused tremendous uncertainty in the future. We get it but get used to it, it will happen again and again. Predictability on its own is out the window.

“If your vision is small because you are uncertain of the future, you're missing the point of a vision."
– a Clarism

There is no inspiration in certainty. There is no energy in something that is a given. Uncertain times is where great visions are born. Great companies and organizations emerge. Great leaders throughout history have shown us the power of vision to capture the spirit of people. People are energized when their spirit is captured. People want to be a part of something bigger than all of us combined.

We may not be able to predict the future, but we can create it. Imagining a world (your world) that does not yet exist and aligning an organization (with a purpose) to bring that world into reality is inspiring. Creating a world that adds value to other people’s lives for the better is inspiring.?

Rally the people to see something different, something they yearn for. They will want to do the work. They will want to be resourceful. They see what you see and are inspired to be a part of it. This is how you become someone to believe in.

Just imagine that it's 2037 and on the news, a headline flashes onto the screen:

"Thanks to the (Insert organization name) we now live in a world where (insert your vision). Here's a look back at how they did it."

It’s about when you reach your vision, it's that you reach it! This is why #VISIONINSPIRES.

“Let me ask you this, what would the world lose if your business didn't exist anymore?"

WEEKLY FERGASM

That rainbow ???I’ve been praying ???for...?

Altogether now, in your best Jimmy Cliff voice:?

“I can see clearly now the rain is gone...”?

Here on the Gold Coast, I feel like that has never been more true.?Currently, we’re celebrating two days in a row where there hasn’t been a single drop of wet stuff falling from the sky.?Seems kinda weird I know (especially for my comrades in the West who probably haven’t seen rain for ages cos we’ve been hogging it all), but after months of unrelenting rain and floods and devastation, it really is exciting.?Not one, not two, but five river floods in four months when we usually get one every four years will do that.?

So, sweet.?The rain is gone, the power’s back on and I’m not flooded in anymore.?

Lesssgoooo!?

But even though our roads aren’t 4m under just as we put 'er into gear to continue forth on our quest, no sooner have we eased out the ‘clutch of clarity’, the song continues;?

“... I can see all obstacles in my way.”?

OBSTACLES??ALL of them??In MY way? What about that bright, sun-shiny day I was promised??

Sure, gone are the dark clouds that had me blind, but obstacles in my way??

No no no, Jimmy, this is not what I signed up for.?You got it wrong champ.?

How often can it feel like this in our lives and business ventures??

If you knew how hard it was going to be when you set out would you still have started??

I’m not sure I would have.?

But in the beginning, it is our vision, the seed of inspiration that we are called forth by.?And sometimes it's all we have to a) get started and b) keep going when it rains.?Sometimes for days on end.?And things can get messy, smelly, and even washed away completely.?But rather than sitting down and getting washed away by a storm that might have left our proverbial road of life and business paved with debris, damage, and in some cases non-existent, how about this:?

Dave’s mate Aden talks about adding value by removing things that don’t.?

And stuff that washes up after a bit of a ‘cleansing’ rain event – in life, business, and nature - wasn’t adding value - including the broken, rusty 44-gallon drum I found lodged in our BBQ area after the creek came through the second last time.?But I didn’t know it was even in the creek before then.?I bet the platypus are happy it’s gone now though!?

So when we CAN see obstacles in our way which might be annoying and confronting initially, remember:?

We are now more empowered to do something about it which never would have happened if the dark clouds didn’t come and do their thing for a bit; not despite of the flood, but by virtue of it.?

A cause for humble reflection and graceful celebration on a sun-shiny day for sure!?
