As we are about to say 'Goodbye 2020' in a month

All of us agree that the Year 2020 started while ringing in with the impending threat of Covid-19 which had just struck China very badly, however none of us in the other part of world ever expected that we shall carry this Corona Virus through out the year 2020 and still we have no proper solution in sight till date. Since each and every nation is trying for a proper getting vaccine for Corona virus we can expect that it will be completely eradicated from the world. Every other day there are news items that saying about Russian vaccine being ready or Pfizer vaccine is found to be effective in almost 90-95% cases during clinical trials.

India's indigenous vaccine from Serum Institute of India for the corona virus ‘Covaxine' which was expected hit the market by August 15 of this pandemic year, there is no further news of it's efficacy. Since India is a big player in pharmaceutical sector India can produce vaccine for the entire globe faster than any nation. Now we understand that ‘Covaxine' got approval for human trial testing let's hope it will be succeed and we will get our old happy days back with clean air and water in a few months from new.

The best case scenario is getting a reliable vaccine. It may take a year or more unlike some companies claiming that vaccine would be available by next June 2021 only. The worst case scenario is herd immunity. Everyone on this planet must follow precautions strictly to prevent the Coronavirus spread. The more we unite as global citizens to address the problem, the earlier we can defeat COVID-19.

Because as per trend and scientific analysis the Virus will continue its presence for unknown period of time. But if all by itself, the Virus mutates itself and changes in some weaker format which is less lethal then only humans will get some respite. Yet it will always be there around for another year or two may be, because the Spanish Flu had started in 1918 and remained in force for two years till end of 1920 taking a toll on millions of lives.

We are therefore going to bid goodbye to this pandemic year 2020 in a hope that the next year would be little better in terms of stoppage of further spread of Corona Virus and by end of next year we should have got the vaccine available to majority of our population to prevent any further infections taking place. We fear the worst case scenario that we will all be wearing masks in public places and at work for another full year and continue our socially distancing until herd immunity is developed slowly across the world. This may take years but theoretically may also never happen if immunity doesn’t last - which means vaccines too may not work.

But even if this were to happen - a positive side would emerge - a new society of free people will form who denounce masks and social distancing. They will claim a life of no more big fat weddings, no big parties, no bear hugs , no dirty dancing , no more visits to malls, or movie theaters, and no more bars to hang around for hours etc is just no way to live - death would be preferable. They will instead focus on improving their immunity to all such pathogens or even accepting a higher rate of mortality.

They will initially be outcasts and considered crazy like the hippies in the 60s but in time people will start wondering who is actually crazy - their own reflection wearing a mask and living in a house filled with toxic sanitizers and seeing every other person as a potential threat to their lives. Or the people living off the land free to roam and explore and live in harmony with nature but who accept their mortality as a gift to learn from rather than to hide from. In every scenario something good will always come from something bad - such is the wonderful balance of life. This too shall pass. Be safe.
