We Are Running Out Of Resources

This newsletter is about Coloured TVs, Knowledge, and how to never run out of Resources.
You see, in every 90s coloured TV, there's a tube called the cathode ray tube. (those who grew in this timeline, must have seen that extended tube at the back of the screen whenever you open your TV for repairs)?
This tube harbours- amongst a few other things- an element called Europium.
For perspective, Europium is the "only" element in the periodic table that, when shot with an electron, produces a red glowing light. That light is then manipulated to create other variance of colours that eventually get displayed on your screen.
Now, considering distribution, if we start calculating how much Europium it would require to add to the cathode ray tube of several millions of unit TVs serving people from all over the world, the figures amounts to alot. And that was the problem.?
Europium wasn't an element that could be produced in the lab like some natural gases. There was a finite amount of it on earth and this was happening at a time where recycling efficiency was almost zero.
Over time, some scientists published a white paper showing how the quantity of Europium in the world was gradually depleting, and there were mathematical formulas to project how long we had left before earth runs out of Europium.?
Fast forward today, no TV uses Europium anymore. We have Flat-screen, LCD, hologram displays, projector display, etc.
How?
We simply evolved and found something else that could get us same goal and better experience.
The Europium and cathode ray tube experience is so familiar and cuts across life generally.?

1. It is important to note that we humans are beings of evolution. There's always a part of us constantly seeking out new ways. And this involves all players (Markets-Product/services and vice-versa).
If we must continue to stay relevant, we need is to let that "seeking" part continually gain expression, else we experience a slow painful death.
2. We never really run out of resources. We only run out of knowledge. Money can get exhausted in your pocket, but there is an endless ocean of money in the world.
500 years ago, anyone who stumbled upon crude oil would have thought "this is useless liquid" Today, there are over 6000 by products of crude oil in the market. Nations bargain with and go to war for crude.
Uranium used to be useless. Today, it's a very critical element used in different fields ranging from power to health.
3. This is the same theory at play in several other industries. Take the music industry for example: Artists like Burna Boy had to find other expressions that made him "grammy worthy". Bigwizz too. Rema is currently out there exploring new experiments to gather/appeal to a new type of audience. Dbanj is making a come back with DonJazzy.
Unlike the past definition of what showbizz was, you can get access to comedy clubs every weekend these days, on subscription based too.
Same goal, different methods, approach, expression and materials.
To say you are running out of resources is to say you are running out of knowledge. There's always a new product, raw material, tech, new approach, seeking expression. You are only limited by what you know and act on. Those are the only ceilings that exists.
We never really run out of resources. We only run out of knowledge. Money can get exhausted in your pocket, but there is an endless ocean of money in the world-Jago Emmanuel
Powerful analogy. But this statement stood out, "something critical had to die for every single coloured unit to be produced and it was only a matter of time". With time things, ideas, etc that seem impossible become a reality and subsequently, a norm. Eventually, everything changes with the introduction of time.

7 个月Very insightful Emmanuel Jago I wasn't privileged to be born in that era, but we had a black and white TV in my grandfather's living room with it's extremely long antenna It took us almost 30minutes to get the TV working each time. ???? Thank you Sir!
