So, we are now a truly stingy country, ‘repairing’ our budget on the backs of the world’s poorest people. If you are appalled, as I am about the successive cuts to Australian Aid, Write a letter or email to the Treasurer. For me, this is an election issue.
Also, please consider increasing your personal contributions to the development NGO’s or charities of choice. For me, that will be World Vision and MAF because I know and trust their work but there are many others, both faith-based and secular, eg. Opportunity International, Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, MSF, CBM, Fred Hollows Foundation, Baptist World Aid and Care Australia. There are, of course, many other worthy organisations.
If you don't have the money to GIVE, maybe you can LEND it? Check out Kiva - you can lend as little as $25. There's a 98% repayment rate, so when it comes back, you can lend it again.
I’ve decided to increase my giving by 0.5% of my net income, about the percentage of GNI that Australia is short on its decades old, yet unrealised promise to the poor. Will you join me?
And, of course, if you want to make a lasting difference into the future, include your favourite charity in your Will. Whether it's large or small, a gift in your Will helps continue the work you are passionate about.
If you don't already have a preferred organisation, here are links to the websites of the organisations I mentioned above.

8 年I am with you Tom T. Last year's budget cuts are the reason I am here unsupported. Populist policies with no regard for humanity.
