Are we really safe on social media??

Few days ago, I received a new year wish from my old school friend with whom I was not in contact for almost 15 years. I didn’t have his contact number too. He found my phone number from one of our common friends and wished me on Whatsapp for New year. It was a surprise to me as I have never expected his message.

On the very next day morning, Facebook suggests me to add him in my contact list..!!!

Actually this is the biggest surprise for me than his WhatsApp message..!

I was really frightened to know that my conversations on social media are being monitored and shared with other sites /medias..

When WhatsApp promises that our personal messages are encrypted while it is being sent to the recipient, are they really trustworthy?

If they can share my contact details with others, how can I trust them about my personal conversations? (I know Facebook owns WhatsApp as well but they DO NOT own my contacts and private details).

All the softwares before installing, asks our agreement on THEIR *terms & conditions*. Is there any government body making sure that our privacy is being maintained?
