Part 1 - Are we really ready to address all of our concerns?

Imagine floating in the empty dark sky, which is nothing but a vast never ending space of vacuum. You are in your bright white suit, just like they show in those pictures which the folks in NASA have clicked. You peep into the dark space and you see nothing but sparkling stars gazing back at you, and when you turn your back to them, you see a big bluish bulgy ball which has started turning grey. That's the exact spot where you would reach using our most current and advanced technologies by spending every single penny you've earned in your entire lifetime. This is harsh but truth, and it's better on face to be told.
Perhaps those autobots are more luckier than you are, that they get to maneuver and land on other mass bodies except Earth. Yes, our technology has reached that far and beyond our solar system, but it still cannot take you that far.
So, here a question arises -
If we tend to call ourselves the most advanced generation with all the geeky gist among all living beings till date, then why are you still not able to reach out to those sparkling stars?
The answer to this lies perhaps somewhere among all of us, who tend to use these technologies only for the existing betterment of ourselves. Implementation and utilization of the most advanced technologies is done either for battling each other or for filling each other's pockets up to the brim considering our unforeseeable future. Nevertheless, various technologies are being used to fight pandemics like Corona, just like we successfully fought plague & cholera back then.
Talking on similar lines, we are using most advanced concepts of Data Science, Machine learning and AI to either predict our stock market gains for over the next few years, or either to predict which year would the recession return back; or either to predict how will the health of our planet be, if we don't plug into the plastic-free Industrial Revolution 4.0.
Sometimes it seems like, maybe, 'Customer Satisfaction' is the only reason which lures all the investors to invest and promote growth of unneeded but disguised-as-necessary technologies.
But is this enough?
Are all of our efforts and utilization of our technical capabilities enough to address all of the problems of our predictable & foreseeable future?
All or at-least most of our current problems can be addressed either if the ever growing population rate becomes stagnant for some time, or either if we start spanning our populations across regions which will help sustain our planetary health.
So, the main question is, will our existing technical expertise help us address this most daunting but neglected/unnoticed concern - the ever growing population?
Any type of suggestions, comments or recommendations to address this concern are most welcomed!
And of course, there's a part 2 to this topic as well. Here's a link to the Part 2 to this topic.

4 年Very thoughtful article Abhay.. and I agree all technology advancements or products are centric to customer satisfaction. But don't you think if we build or innovate something which is not usable what is the point of creating it in first place. I believe everything in this universe per say has a purpose. Without a purpose it will cease to exist. I am a huge fan of cartoon movies. For eg: If you have watched Lilo and Stitch movie, there is a dialogue "What would it feel like to be alive without a purpose". Secondly, Yes, we do need to address consciously about population as well or Nature will have it's way to restore balance. Coronavirus and other pandemics and epidemics in history are good enough lessons for Humans to stop being their own doom. It is WE as HUMANS need to decide whether we are a Curse or Boon to ourselves. :) PS: Liked ur style.. for a moment I actually went to space while reading ur article..
