At Esbjerg today Denmark is hosting the Heads of States from Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Pres of the EU Commission herself Ursula von der Leyen for the North Sea Summit.
The energy crisis, driven by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and let's face it being addicted to an energy source that puts corruptive power into despots, has sharpened minds and strengthen spines.
The summit focuses on using offshore wind as the foundation for phasing out hydrocarbons in the EU. At last a strong common message and plan is emerging. A real coming together on infrastructure and co-operation.
Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands will today announce a 150GW offshore wind network in the North Sea, connecting the different countries with subsea interconnectors and also deploying green hydrogen pipelines. bringing low cost clean energy and energy security, becoming energy autonomous as the EU is calling it.
At the Summit today history will be announced. Alongside the REpowerEU initiatives already been rolled out, it will supercharge Europe's drive to netzero:
??150 GW offshore wind generation
??€135bn of investment
??Clean power for >200 Million households

??Representing half of the needed offshore wind in 2050
??Connecting the 3 countries with interconnectors
??Incorporating that 'Swiss army knife' of the transition, green hydrogen as an off take
"The EU must become independent from Russian #fossilfuels as fast as possible. The best way forward is for the European countries to work together to scale up and speed up the buildout of renewable energy in the North Sea. At the summit, we will present some of the key solutions needed for Europe to make the ambitious transition to renewables, and that is why I am looking very much forward to welcoming my fellow energy ministers in Esbjerg," - Danish Minister of Climate and Energy, Dan J?rgensen.
Truly marvellous to see this vision. It is exciting being in this industry, what we build will be powering the family taking the children to school in their car, the heating and lighting our homes, our industries, the hospitals caring for our sick, and on and on...it will be the beating heart of our civilisation.
Clean. Affordable. Secure.
We think we have come a long way (hint: we have!), but we truly are at the foothills of what our industry...renewables...can achieve.

2 年As will all great technologies, how good they are depends on purposes they are used for. I hope hydrogen is used for the right causes, otherwise valuable green electricity will be wasted on inefficient solutions and we will delay the energy transition, rather then accelerating it...

2 年Paul Martin It does mention here your solution, just FYI. "Incorporating that 'Swiss army knife' of the transition, hydrogen". I just thought it's funny in a way - your arguments very soon may be used against you soon. "Swiss army knife - hydrogen" is the solution, "Hopium" of energy transition and decarbonization (it's never going to happen ) .... ??
We need the same for Baltic! EU is there too..
