Are we ready for ChatGPT?
ChatGPT is mindblowing and scary at the same time.
It's been around for about two months only, and I already can hardly remember how I functioned without it. How it changed my life can be compared to when I started using the internet. ChatGPT is my go-to tool multiple times per day - from basic things like putting together a valid business e-mail from a few prompts I provide - to summarising and structuring sets of texts collected from different sources into a coherent, structured message to present during meetings at work. I use #ChatGPT to help with administrative paperwork for my non-profit work at Perform on Top (#erasmus projects funded by EU presume to generate hundreds and hundreds of pages of reports ??) and polish my text for this blog article ??. I rely heavily on ChatGPT in my daily work to improve my performance and optimize my workflow. Things that used to take days or even weeks of work now take hours, and things that used to take hours now take minutes. I can do more - better and faster.
However, as I benefit from this powerful tool, I can't stop thinking that before ChatGPT became so essential for me in my daily life, by today, I have spent 35 years developing my brain, going to extremes. I am used to challenging myself - 3 master's degrees in three different countries in different areas (business, psychology, and IT). Always a straight-A student, always a top performer, and always overdeliver. My "work in progress" tends to be better than most people consider "done." My "I'm not sure I have passed" tends to be the top 5% best result. I speak four languages. I invested in broadening my worldview my entire life - soft skills, hard skills, critical thinking, logic, reasoning, inductive thinking, deductive thinking, etc. Yet I still embrace a sense of inferiority because (I'm a woman???) self-development is a never-ending work in progress. I am one of those creatures whose best Birthday or New Year gift for myself is a new certification (the latest example is the exam for becoming a Certified Blockchain Expert that I took and passed on Jan 31, 2022, ??).
All in all... My 35-year endeavor helped me realize what it means to put mental effort into developing the brain and building new neural connections. It is a challenging, time-consuming, and incremental process. It's not quick and easy... It requires discipline; it requires the right mindset, and appropriate life habits. Having these in place by now, I know how to use such technology as ChatGPT to help me become more productive and deliver even better results faster.
However... are we ready for ChatGPT as a society?
The rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the most transformative and controversial developments of our time. It has the potential to revolutionize industries and improve our lives in countless ways, but it also raises important ethical and philosophical questions. As #AI continues to change the world we live in, how can we onboard the younger generation in the right way to our rapidly transforming world to ensure they don't over-rely on AI but live and develop alongside it? How to ensure that younger generations stay mentally sharp and creative?
I don't have the answers... Do you?
There is a fantastic book related to the topic - "Life 3.0" written by Max Tegmark - a physicist from #Sweden working at (MIT) 美国麻省理工学院 , conducting research in physics and AI. In a comprehensive and nerdish way typical for physicists, Max contemplates the future of AI and our future in this context. It was published in 2017 - and back then, it still was a futuristic piece of work. However, ChatGPT sheds new light on this book.

1 年Very interesting read, thank you for sharing your thoughts!?? The post does raise some important questions on where we put limits to using such tools as ChatGPT. They can be quite helpful and a great boost to accomplishing some of the mundane daily tasks. However, such tools can also impact in a negative way the willingness of the younger generations to put efforts into learning and developing their own skills. Another concern is how easy it is to produce fake and sometimes even plain wrong content with these tools. Interesting to see how this is going to be used.
