All of us know that its our brain which creates thoughts, but what we actually need to dwell upon is that, its our own thinking that shapes up our brains too. How would you know that you are prisoner of your own thoughts? Here are a few things that I figured out.If you often feel any of them, then its time for you to break free from your own prison of thoughts. Obsessively dwelling upon some unpleasant event that has happened in the past. Quickly jumping to conclusions. Taking blame for something which was not in your control. Always doubting your own decisions. Seeing the worst in any situation. Having the “why does it happen only to me “ attitude. Now coming to the second part of your question, how do we break free from them?
Being a prisoner of thoughts generally occur when we have lot of time to waste. Without knowing what to do we generally tend to think all the things what ever which comes to our mind. If you want to be free from thoughts you need to concentrate on doing things which you like the most (or which are necessary for your growth, if you are so caring about your career and future). Stop thinking and start doing something. Always keep busy as it was correctly said, that an “empty brain is devil’s workshop”. Indulge in a hobby, learn something new or try helping out a loved one in their work.
Believe that its very human to be wrong, its not necessary that you have to be correct all the time. Also there is nothing wrong in being imperfect. Quiet your mind with meditation . It is strongly believed that the best way to master your brain and gain control over your thoughts is through meditation. Continuously monitoring yourself for negative thoughts is not an easy task. You have to be vigilant all the time and should be unflinchingly honest with yourself, but gaining control over your thoughts is worth the effort and is the best thing you can do to improve your brain and the quality of your life.
It is important to know our thoughts are made up of what we are feeding to our mind. So if you are listening to sad songs for whole day ,you will feel miserable at the end of the day. If you are watching crime shows, you will have the feeling of suspicion for everything around you. So don’t change your thoughts. Just see, read, listen, talk all the kinds of things you want to feel and it will happen. Go to YouTube and watch motivational videos for next two hours, you negative thoughts will begin to diminish. Do this daily and see how it works. Watch funny videos and you’ll feel less sad. Feed your mind with good things and they will follow.
During my active business life I was very busy managing many different people and components of the company, including the workforce, budget, schedule, and risk-taking. When I would return home from work late at night to lay down, the day that had since passed replayed itself. Was that a good decision I made? Did what I say hurt him? I shouldn't have said that. Why did I say that then? Why did this one guy talk to me like that? I was a perfect and trouble-free person outside, but within was a battlefield filled with constant self-censorship, distrust, and questioning. If one thought popped up in conjunction with something that happened a long time ago, my mind would wander endlessly, preventing sleep.
My thoughts about my relationships were mainly negative: regrets and guilt for all I had done wrong, inferiority complex, shame, resentment, anger against others, worry, fear of not getting better in the future. I couldn't stop thinking; the more I did, the more pessimistic I became. It was as if time had stopped, and I was stuck alone in a deep, deep dungeon. It was so painful and frightening. We all have our minds, and it seems impossible to get out when stuck in one's mind. Because I cannot control my mind, I have no choice but to think about what's going on in my mind. This is why it appears to be a prison of the mind. This stuck and trapped feeling puts one's heart in pain.
Prisons are places where criminals are locked up and physically isolated from society. Ironically, we liken the mind to a facility that accommodates offenders who break the law. In religions such as Christianity and Buddhism, humans are said to be sinners. It is said that humans are sinners for turning their backs on the true God and Buddha, which is true nature, and living with a discerning and self-centered human mind. Even if we are not religious, we are aware that we are not complete. Humans are trapped in their sins, which is the human mind and forced to die for them. They are already dead within their illusionary minds. To escape this "sinner's" mind is to get out of the prison of the mind.
The question is how to escape; I wondered how to free myself from the painful mind prison from an early age. I made countless attempts to break out of my rock-solid mind world. Finally, I had a chance to escape through meditation. The human mind is created by the life one has lived. Meaning from childhood to the present, I took pictures of what I have experienced with all five senses and saved them like a film within my mind, and lived as a prisoner to that film. My body came from my parents' ancestors, so I inherited their minds as well. Because they are embedded in me, I act, speak, and live by that framework. I am my mind, so when I break the mold of the human mind, I can get out of the prison of my mind. If you get out of this prison, you can find absolute freedom.Cheers!
