We, the PRESENT generation & governments HAVE THE HOLY & MORAL DUTY to SAVE PLANET TERRA & ENSURE HEALTHY HAPPY LIVES FOR US & FUTURE GENERATIONS!

We, the PRESENT generation, along with world governments , HAVE THE HOLY AND MORAL RESPONSIBILITY and DUTY to SAVE PLANET TERRA and thus ENSURE HEALTHY HAPPY LIVES FOR US AND ESPECIALLY FOR THE FUTURE GENERATIONS!

For too many years we are facing EXTREMELY SEVERE EFFECTS of CLIMATE CHANGE generated by the GLOBAL WARMING induced by humans through the IRRESPONSIBLE & CONTINUOUS POLLUTION OF AIR, LAND AND RIVERS, LAKES, SEAS & OCEANS!!!

Heatwaves, forest fires, droughts, desertification, floods, landslides, atmospheric rivers rainfall, polar sheet and mountain glaciers melting, sea & ocean level rise, ozone layer depletion are DIRECT TERRIBLE CONSEQUENCES OF THE POLLUTION MADE BY HUMANS WHO ARE SHOWING A TOTAL LACK OF WISDOM AND AND RESPECT TOWARDS PLANET TERRA, THE MOTHER NATURE WHO WAS AND STILL IS THE SOURCE OF LIFE ON THIS CELESTIAL TINY SPOT THAT TRAVELS WITHIN THE NEVERENDING AND EVERLASTING INFINITE COSMOS!

The 2023 summer months (June, July, August) were the hottest in the history of meteorological measurements!!! Recently we already reached a 1,2 °C Global warming increase compared to the pre-industraial levels!! There's only 0,3 °C left to reach the terrible threshold of 1,5°C increase!! The worrying thing is that the respective threshold was already briefly passed for the month of July 2023 during the Northern summer.!

All the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are off-track, far behind their annual targets!!!

In 2023 the Earth Overshoot Day was reached on August 2 marking the date when humanity has exhausted nature's budget for the current year!!!

The European continent is the fastest warming compared to the other continents! We would need at least three planets if everyone lived and consumed like the average European today!!

A recent study in Science Advances warned that human activities have caused planet Terra to exceed six of nine boundaries needed to keep our Earth healthy, pushing the environment “well outside the safe operating space for humanity".

Planet Earth’s ability to sustain human life a d society depends on nine essential “planetary boundaries,” or global systems representing key indicators of its health. Six out of these nine boundaries have been crossed due to humans' activities: climate change, biosphere integrity (which includes biodiversity ), freshwater availability, land use, nutrient pollution and novel entities (meaning human-made pollution, such as microplastics and radioactive waste). Only three such boundries were still not affected: ocean acidification , air pollution and ozone depletion.

On top of all these FACTUAL REALITIES we are facing another TERRIBLE THREAT: the DISINFORMATION / MANIPULATION / FAKE NEWS THAT DENIES THE EXISTENCE OF POLLUTION, GLOBAL WARMING AND CLIMATE CHANGE to which we should add the DANGERS OF GREENWASHING / WINDOW-DRESSING THE COMPANIES'S FINANCIAL STATEMENTS as well as the one of the FAKE TECHNOLOGIES claiming they are fully green, decarbonized!!

In my opinion WE NEED TO HAVE A NEW, THE 18TH, ONE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOAL: COMBATING FINANCIAL AND RISK REPORTING GREENWASHING AND DISINFORMATION THAT DENIES THE EXISTENCE OF POLLUTION, GLOBAL WARMING AND CLIMATE CHANGE!

All of the above are TERRIBLE WARNINGS THAT PEOPLE ALLOVER THE WORLD SHOULD BE MADE AWARE OF!!

We need to emphasize the fact that the poor, less developed contries are the MOST AFFECTED by the effects of pollution, global warming and climate changes. Therefore the most developed countries MUST bear an IMPORTANT SHARE OF THE BURDEN REPRESENTED BY THE IMMENSE FINANGING NEEDED. Otherwise the severe weather effects along with unemployment and hunger will generate not only political and social turmoil in the less developed countries but also a devastating migration wave that would sweep the economies of the well developed countries!

The best strategy and solution pathways for bringing back on track the UN SDG 13 are to:

  • Create and enforce the legal framework (laws, regulations, guidelines) in the areas of combating pollution and of sustainability reporting enacted by the regional and national legislative institutions (for instance the European Parliament, the European Commission, EFRAG, IFRS-ISSB, GRI, European Banking Authority, European Central Bank, International Energy Agency, European Environment Agency, etc. and by the national parliaments, governments, ministries of finance and of environment);
  • The lack of such legal regulatory framework enacted and / or its lack of enforcement did not lead to the creation of awareness and to the shaping of consumer behaviour and attitudes related to the essential need to protect the environment by stopping the pollution of air, land and water. So far the existing environment regulatory framework and especially its enforcement was not perceived as being compulsory by the individuals and companies. This is the main reason that generates the huge pollution of the air, land, lakes, rivers, seas and oceans.
  • The environment regulatory framework has a role similar to the rule of law legal framework that represents the backbone or the fundamental component of a modern society and nation. The lack of a such environmental legal regulatory framework aimed at combating and penalizing pollution and the greenwashing of sustainability reporting OR the lack of the rule of law will only lead BOTH to chaos and anarchy which is happening right now with the immense pollution that negatively affects people's health and lives as well as the viability of planet Earth. Voluntary compliance of individuals and companies to environment regulation did not worked, mainly due to the poor education level (illiteracy and / or functional illiteracy) of a significant part of the world population and, respectively, due to the poor control of national authorities regarding companies compliance with the environmental legal framework. Under these circumstances without including the environment / ecology topic into the curricula of national education system (schools, high-schools, university) and without the enactment and firm enforcement of environmental legal framework we cannot hope to shape the consumer behaviour towards a full adherence to the ideals of stopping the pollution and protecting the environment!
  • Accelerate the transition to a clean energy economy. This means investing heavily in renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and geothermal power, and energy efficiency measures. It also means phasing out fossil fuels as quickly as possible.
  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions from all sectors. This includes transportation, industry, agriculture, and buildings. It will require a combination of technological innovation, policy changes, and behavioral changes.
  • Increase resilience to climate change impacts. This means investing in measures to protect people and infrastructure from extreme weather events such as floods, droughts, and heatwaves. It also means developing early warning systems and contingency plans.

Some specific solution pathways for achieving these goals include:

  • Pricing carbon emissions. This would put a market price on pollution, which would incentivize businesses and individuals to reduce their emissions.
  • Investing in public transportation and sustainable transportation infrastructure. This would make it easier for people to get around without using cars.
  • Promoting energy efficiency in buildings and appliances. This would reduce the amount of energy we need to produce and consume.
  • Supporting sustainable agriculture practices. This includes reducing the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, and improving soil management.
  • Protecting and restoring forests. Forests play a vital role in absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

It is important to note that there is no one-size-fits-all solution to climate change. The best approach will vary depending on the specific circumstances of each country or region. However, the solutions listed above are a good starting point.

In addition to the above, it is also important to:

  • Raise awareness of climate change and its impacts. This is essential for building public support for climate action.
  • Empower individuals and communities to take action on climate change. This can be done through education, training, and financial support.
  • Promote international cooperation on climate change. Climate change is a global problem, and it will require a global solution.

By taking these steps, we can bring back on track the UN SDG 13 and create a more sustainable future for all.

CONCLUSION

The human specie MUST understand that it is only a GUEST on planet Terra and therefore it must SHOW TOTAL RESPECT FOR OUR MOTHER - HOST!!

Let's STOP polluting the AIR, LAND and the RIVERS/SEAS/OCEANS!

Let STOP using fossil fuel like oil, gas, coal!

Let's STOP deforestation!!

Let's STOP the waste!

Let's START Reuse & Recycle!

Let's START using green, clean renewable energy - solar, wind, water, hydrogen!

And MOST IMPORTANT! LET'S ASK GOVERNMENTS ALL OVER THE WORLD TO RELEASE THE HUGE NEEDED FINANCING FOR IMPLEMENTING IMMEDIATELY THE ACTION PLANS AIMED AT FULLY COMPLYING WITH THEIR COMMITMENTS REGARDING THE UN SDGs AND THE 1,5°C LIMIT ON GLOBAL WARMING!!!

Let's SAVE THE WORLD and THE PLANET, PEOPLE AND GOVERNMENTS ACTING TOGETHER!
