We Powered A Village!

We want to take you on a behind-the-scenes look into some of our projects. Often what our audience sees in our films on YouTube is just a small fraction of what goes into our efforts to make the world a better place.
The team at Beast Philanthropy can be working for over a year on some of the projects, to guarantee that we provide those in need with the best possible care. We want to share with you all of the unforeseen challenges, the hidden triumphs, and the untold stories that shape Beast Philanthropy and our mission to change the world.
Just last year, we adopted an orphanage in South Africa and powered a remote island in Colombia as well as a village in Zambia. We brought water to Kenya and paid for a free hospital in the Philippines. We helped paralyzed dogs run in Thailand and helped acquire a produce market to help feed the hungry in New York. Recently we built a school in Cameroon, and a town in Guatemala, before traveling to Mexico to provide 100 surgeries for kids with cleft palates.
It’s time to learn more about one of our favorite film projects to date; ‘We Powered A Village’; In this video, we tell the story of Dora Moono Nyambe , a single mother in Zambia who fosters over 300 kids. This adventure began with Dora tagging us in a TikTok video highlighting the urgent need for reliable electricity in her home village. Her message caught Beast Philanthropy's attention, and we knew he had to help.
Dora raises most of her funding to support the village through the donations she generates via her TikTok following (4.1 Million) and so you can see how this story relates to us in a big way, as we are strong advocates of positive influencers who are leveraging the power of social media for good. Below we caught up with the world’s unofficial ambassador of kindness and Beast Philanthropy Executive Director; Darren Margolias .
Can you tell us a bit about this project and why Beast Philanthropy got involved?
Access to electricity is often taken for granted, it's easy to forget that there are still countless communities in remote areas without this basic necessity. Dora also had to use a disproportionate portion of the limited funds she has to buy diesel to power the generator to draw water from the well. So obviously, this was an easy project to pick. We have a huge amount of respect for everything that Dora has done and accomplished.
So there were no challenges?
One of the challenges we faced was purchasing solar panels as they are in high demand in many regions in Africa, but once successful and with the help of our partner Give Power, we were ready to send our team over to document the installation process and capture the reaction from all the kids, many of whom had never had access to light at night. This was a huge factor for security as there are many challenges in the area.?
What were some of the underlying objectives for this project?
Our objectives were to supply Dora with the necessary tools to help her give these children the life they deserve. With electricity, Dora can provide her kids with safety thanks to the light, power essential appliances for feeding the kids, and helping them with their schooling.
Beyond those immediate benefits, this project also contributes to a more sustainable future with our solar efforts. By harnessing the power of the sun, the community reduces its reliance on fossil fuels, leading to a greener, cleaner environment for generations to come.
While I was there, I also noticed the dire water situation, where all 300 of the kids had access to only one tap and Dora would have to drive up to 2hrs just to get cold water, so then decided that we’d also be building the village a well so the kids have access to water indefinitely.
What do you hope the audience takes away from this collaboration?
As always, one of our biggest achievements in making these videos is the impact it has on our audience and the people who see the stories we share. This initiative reminds us that positive change can start with one person's voice and a shared commitment to a better future for others less fortunate. We were so impressed with Dora and what she was doing for these kids. How she dedicated her life to helping so many and was using her creativity, and social media platforms to support so many children. If anything, I hope the audience feels the need to follow in her footsteps.
This past women’s day we learned that Dora had been awarded the ‘Zee Woman in Education’ award at the Zee Women Banking Awards 2024 in Zambia. We are so happy she is being recognised as the exceptional woman she is.
Unfortunately, this wasn’t the only thing we learned, shortly after filming, a storm blew down some of the houses in the village, and she had to relocate many of the children. Thankfully none of the kids were hurt but there was severe rain damage with many of the houses losing all roofing and much of the furniture being destroyed. We have set up a fundraiser to help support Dora and if you have the means and would like to show your appreciation for Dora and her kids, you can do so here: https://www.beastphilanthropy.org/campaign/dora-moono
