Head of Strategy and Fundraising at WE RESTART Charity
Willesden Green Community joined WE RESTART for a one day workshop about Art & Sustainability.
On Sunday, the 23° of October, WE RESTART has organised We aRe Plastic, a workshop about art and sustainability led by artist Elisa Cantarelli at the Performance Room at Willesden Green Library.
The workshop has been supported by Brent Council and awarded the Love Where You Live grant.?
Artist Elisa Cantarelli has explained participants how to work on single-use recycled plastic bottles.
People from different backgrounds gathered together to learn more about recycling through creativity. Each participant was invited to bring a recycled transparent plastic bottle with a cap.
Dotting the bottles takes inspiration by the action of obliteration by artist Yayoi Kusama. Through the act of dotting, we give a new identity to the bottles.?
During the workshop we brought a catalogue by artist Yayoi Kusama and talked about how art was a healing tool for her.
While dots where drying, we had food and talked about climate change and how to tackle recycling related issues.?
After the lunch break, we kept working to create an abstract composition and assembled the bottles together to create the final installation.
Brent Council Deputy Mayor, Cllr Orleen Hylton visited us and she got involved!
On the floor, the bottles are set together like the pieces of a jigsaw.
This and other workshops are available on request. Contact our team to learn more about it.?
