WE the People

WE the People

This has never been a symbol of racism or oppression, nor has it ever stood depicting a perfect way of life in some fictional Camelot. For over 200 years it has instead been a symbol of hope for people with one common belief in the meaning of the words "We the people..."

Young Colin was only four when this photo was taken so I doubt he fully understands its significance to me as an American. But, let me try to share that meaning to his young, passionate generation.  The day that we stop believing in "We The People" is the day we are divided as a nation and become truly oppressed.

The white on this perfect symbol of an imperfect nation represents the purity and innocence of new generations in their endeavors to build a more perfect Union

The red represents Strength and Valor - not just of our forefathers or our Heros or us old guys, but of the common man who is willing to stand, speak up and be heard and even fight defending the common good for We the People.

So, young Colin, I pray you reconsider sitting silently in protest as a minority and instead stand and speak up for those who you believe are not as strong as an American, and do not let yourself be divided by the color of your skin. Instead, embrace a 250 year old revolution founded in the common belief that We the People are stronger together in our hope and struggle for a better future as one nation. Anything less is squandering your birthright
