Brigid Schulte’s Vision for a Healthier Work Culture
The end of the year always inspires big questions. There’s a lot that we all think back on naturally as things slow down… Was I present enough as a parent? Did I enjoy the free time I had or was I stressing about something I can’t even remember now? Did I work too much or not well enough? We might not always find the answers we want. For many of us, we get to the end of the race feeling a little tired, burned out, and over work.?
Today, we have an episode about the culture of work. There are an infinite number of ways to create culture, so what are the ways we’ve chosen as a society? With the huge changes AI might bring our way, is this a moment to re-examine our choices? And is there even a model for a better way to work?
I’m talking with reporter Brigid Schulte. A while back she wrote a book called Overwhelmed about time management and stress. It was a bestseller. Her new book is Over Work. Brigid has surveyed cultures around work internationally, in places like Scotland, Iceland and Japan besides here at home, in the United States. And we’ll get to that a little later in the episode. But first, I wanted to see what Brigid’s perspective is on the million dollar question we seem to ask ourselves at least a few times a year: are we supposed to be in love with our work??

2 个月This has been an important topic for a number of years and we still don't seem to have it right. As an older person, I learned rather late in life the importance of taking control of your own goals and processes. This helps reduce long hours in favour of high quality. Part of the problem may be that we are still way to hung up on climbing career ladders, or neglecting important ways of doing something useful that isn't in an office, home or otherwise.
