We are only as good as our team
For those of you who enjoy your cycling, you are probably aware that the Giro d'Italia has just finished. The Ineos Grenadiers again won the race through Egan Bernal and also picked up the 'best team' prize.
However, it is one of the team's mechanic's, Matteo Cornacchione, I want to talk about. Like all the backroom staff, they carry on their work, out of the limelight, with the eight members of the team out on the road taking on the plaudits.
It is this one short video, https://bit.ly/3vEdvc9, that shows how critical every member of a team is in ensuring success. Coming into the last couple of kilometres of the final stage of the race, Filippo Ganna was leading by several seconds when disaster struck, a flat tire. Ordinarily, this would be the end of any hopes of victory but a combination of Ganna's superb form and the cool-headed and swift support of Cornacchione meant Ganna held on to win by 12 seconds.
Teams, the stars can only shine when the whole team works together.
