And we are off…

The January 2020 case studies were released at 9.20am on Friday 3rd January. At 9.21am BTS had started their analysis and design of both the workshop and analysis materials.

So what do BTS think of the two January exam case studies?

Well we think they are ok, nicer than the ones we saw in 2019.

• Case study 1 is your usual younger couple with dependants and a mortgage. We are hopeful that for the first time in ages we will see a gorgeous big-marker protection question in the exam on the 20th January!
• Lisa has inherited ￡100,000 from her grandfather and does not know what to do with it. We bet the exam will come up with a question or two on this.
• Tom and Lisa are both employed and members of workplace pension schemes.
• They have a fixed rate ￡250,000 mortgage linked to monthly ISAs.

Case study, 2 Manuel and Susan, are your archetypal older couple looking to retire in 12 months’ time.

• Manuel is a high earner with a lovely SIPP for us to be examined on.
• Mind you, Susan with her equally gorgeous defined benefit scheme is interesting as well.
• This couple have a nice little inheritance tax problem and a few deposits and investments for us to get our heads around.

What are BTS offering in support of the January R06 sittings?

BTS are running three workshops:

• London 1 on 9th/10th January (15 places available, 12 taken)
• Manchester on 13th/14th January (15 places available, 12 taken)
• London 2 on 13th/14th January (12 places available, 6 taken)

As you can see, workshop spaces are already filling up fast.

What if you cannot attend a BTS R06 workshop?

BTS are also producing an analysis for purchase. This will be available on Tuesday 7th January giving you almost two clear weeks to practice possible questions and answers, and to gen up on possible technical areas that may be examined.
