Let's Make a Ruckus- Issue 2 - January 20, 2023

We Need You to Make a Ruckus!

Mid-way through January 2023 – how are your goals and resolutions for the year progressing??Yesterday, I was speaking with Mike Harbour , and he shared that most people abandon their New Year goals by the end of January.?Mike shared the importance of consistency, patience, and diligence.?Change can happen, and you can achieve your goals if you remain consistent in your efforts. ?

This is the second edition of Let's Make a Ruckus. ?The goal of this bi-weekly newsletter is to provide you with knowledge, resources, and connections of value that support the work you do in healthcare. ?We will celebrate ruckus makers, introduce you to those doing work that makes a difference, and keep you informed of upcoming opportunities where you can let your voice be heard and make a ruckus. A good ruckus. A ruckus that makes a difference!

When working towards goals in healthcare, connecting with a community who are also working to achieve similar goals can help you stay consistent.?This newsletter seeks to connect you with community – a community of healthcare ruckus makers!?Together we will make a difference!

Celebrating a Ruckus Maker

The Ruckus Makers we shine a light on are stepping out and risking being seen and heard. They are making a DIFFERENCE!

LinkedIn Header for Ann Richardson

LinkedIn Profile: Ann Richardson

Ann shares what she sees and hears as she works with nurses, physicians, and others working on the frontlines (or, as Jean Putnam says, first-lines) of our healthcare organizations. She isn't shy about calling out the opportunities. This recent post is a good example of what she shares. I appreciate the second to last sentence

Like nurses, do CEOs ask themselves, "Did I do anything wrong today?"

I celebrate this post where Ann asks,

Can we please kill the headlines and solve the problems?

From Deborah Ford and Armin Schubert with Ochsner Medical Center. They are seeing improvement in patient experience, staff engagement, and quality and safety initiatives.

From Michelle Niermann , Carmen Kleinsmith, and Carol Meade with Unity Point Health. Shared the power of the PAUSE and this quote from Green Cross:

What's Happening in The PX Community

The first cohort of 2023 has launched! Valerie Choniuk, MPA-HCA, CPXP Danielle (Danie) Turpin Diane Honn, CPXP and Melissa Coker (Wurm) have come together to identify and create a resource supporting the January theme of PX Surveying. Great minds united in Week 1 of this six-week cohort, and the outcome promises to be of great value to the community!

In 2022, we held five cohorts - small groups of PX and healthcare professionals - and created six videos. We created these videos with the intent of making them available for anyone to use. Find them on our YouTube channel.

The second video was created by Valerie Choniuk, MPA-HCA, CPXP, Danie Turpin, CPXP, Abbot Koehler, MHL, and Martha Hornung, MBA. These amazing PX Leaders came together and created Percentile Ranks: What you REALLY Need to Know.

Cohort participation is available to members of The PX Community. Join the community and be a part of creating resources of value for you and others.

I love The PX Community and making a ruckus in healthcare! Thank you Denise Wiseman, PhD, MBA, CPXP and Preston Alexander for tagging me! Making a ruckus on #familyvisitation restrictions amid #covid19 + hospitalized patients: The #CDC recommends isolation for 5 days-if symptoms resolve for 24+ hours or negative PCR test, discontinue isolation. if neither criteria met, discontinue isolation after 10 days, assuming resolving symptoms; retesting unneccesary. Immunocompromised patients must isolate for 20 days! A certain hospital keeps patients in isolation until the patient tests negative to two consecutive PCR tests, 24-48 hours apart! Their visitation policiy is one visitor/day for <1H. We have a supposedly immunocompromised family member ((WBC-normal/no chemo for three weeks) who is on day #35 of isolation! She tested negative with my rapid antigen test. The CDC recommends "Antigen" and NOT PCR after 30 days: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/infection-control-recommendations.html She never had symptoms. She was tested per hospital protocol, She's been afebrile the entire hospitalization(Day #52) What have you experienced? What consequences do you anticipate from restricting family visitation in this setting?
