We need to stop trying to beat undeveloped countries at furnishing inexpensive, unprotected, uneducated, uninsured labor

If we don't change our mindset about what makes us competitive, we will become an undeveloped nation ourselves--while still losing to those that are cheaper, because there will always be someone cheaper.

Developed nations with highly educated workforces and state-of-the-art infrastruture compete on the basis of innovation and technological efficiencies and effectiveness. But if we continue to beat down the cost of labor and access to quality education and healthcare on the pretext that we can't afford to pay for everyone, then we will indeed see what the bottom of the pile looks like, without making ourselves any more competitive in world markets.

Short term greed will be our undoing as a people.
