We need our children more than you think; a reminder.

When I come home to my favorite couch under the yellow light and the familiar sound of Netflix’s “Ta-Dum,” my father hands the Firestick remote and asks me, “What should we watch?” I hear my heart saying, “Jitne dinon ke liye bhi jao, kam hai! ((No matter how many days I visit for, it will always feel too short.)”

Priyam Nayak writes in her blog 'Reflections On a Balmy Evening in Kolkata'.

I was moved reading it, it talks about her emotions of a simple ask of spending time with her father; it takes me to the time when my daughter will be in this phase of her life.

We are running all over the place to make the best of our lives, hurrying ourselves catching up or moving fast to the next phase. Little one's without their filters or colors just ask 'papa come sit with me; we will watch 'Grizzly and the Lemmings' ; her favorite cartoon.

I cannot imagine what goes in her mind that she laughs louder than usual when I am just sitting there and in all honesty I enjoy it as well. Is she asking too much ? No but sometimes we won't be available at the very moment and decline such requests from our little ones.

And this worries me- is spending time to talk about their school, their new friend who came over, doing a small activity with them takes more? Not at all; In fact if you just check your phones on how much time you have spent scrolling Instagram/YouTube would be more than what you have spent the entire week with your little one.

Those little smudges of their hands on the doors & windows will disappear in no time and we will be thinking what have we missed - do we regret then ? Or cherish the memories we made with them.

This blog was a reminder to myself to just go watch 'Grizzly and the Lemmings' with my little one.
