We need a new "horizontal CV" mode on LinkedIn

Working on projects, products, and stories at the intersection of technology and business
The world went from a place where people would be affiliated to one organization for a while, to today's much more atomized reality. Right now my profile lists 13 ongoing work experiences because I am trying to be transparent about who I work with. So my profile reads: "Board member at Monito.com", "Board member at CREA Genève", "Board member at Addactis Worldwide", etc. And if I wanted to be exhaustive and link to each company I invested into, I'd have to create at least ten more "experiences" with the title "investor".
I should be able to invert the logic, and write "Board member at Monito.com, CREA Genève, Addactis Worldwide". Start with a title, attach it to multiple organizations. Much simpler!
Many people I like and respect are involved with dozens of organizations, and LinkedIn's design makes it hard to be fully transparent and up to date. So most of us end up with either 1) incomplete but readable or 2) complete but unreadable profiles.
Why not offer users the choice of whether they want to proceed vertically (starting with an organization) or horizontally (starting with a title), and then let them fill out the blanks? Can someone please run this past the decision makers at LinkedIn?

7 年Josh Elman, if you still have any influence over team Linkedin, this is some great feedback from power users!
Yes!! LinkedIn profile does not accommodate for the way we live our lives today. Serious customer feedback, prototyping and iteration needed! I also would love to be able to differentiate among connections, the people I have collaborated with, and the ones I only know from common interests but not directly fm work experience

7 年I think you're simply asking for a way to list by function rather than solely chronological work history. Pretty common on CVs/resumes. So, yeah, I think more page flexibility would be nice (per your suggestion). I also agree with Vasyl (Basil) Gello, there are many workarounds. List these activities in "Projects" for example, which allows you to have a "project" (venture funding) with a list of clients. Or "board member" with a list of roles/positions/committees. Heck, even just link out of LinkedIn to your own site or put together a list and attach it as PDF or SlideShare to your profile. I'm sure you've thought of these things and have your own reasons to have everything listed as text (SEO, baby!). Just wanted to leave my suggestions to give some of your readers my thoughts and promote your interesting article across my network.
Jeff Weiner Can you help? Please & thanks.
