I talk to Start-ups and Scale-ups every day. Entrepreneurs who try and re?nvent themselves during Covit-19. Feeling the VC's or investors breathing down their neck. But still, we laugh a lot, and talking about what might happen or not happen sometimes helps them to find solutions or a way out. Take another step in the right direction.
One of them told me that he had the feeling our talks feel like 'Rubber Ducking'.
I didn't know the expression at all. But apparently it is a common practice as a developer to talk out loud to a Rubber Duck when you get stuck. Thinking out loud to someone helps to formulate the problem. See where the problem is and fix it. If you google the term you'll be amazed about the psychology and science behind it.
I discover that I have been the Rubber Duck for a lot of people ever since I was a child. If you put me in the middle of a square there is a big chance that people will ask me something. My first reflex then was to try and solve the problem back then. But know I take a more 'zen' approach. I help them to see what they don't see and don't beat around the bush. I try to find out what rocks their boat. Because I believe the only path to take is the one where you feel passionate about what you do. Whatever road you take as an entrepreneur it will be bumpy roads. So you'll better love what you do.
So feel free to ping me if you want to 'Rubber Duck'. And if you see someone struggling around you please do the same. We will need a lot of 'Rubber Ducking' in the future.
Let's all rubber duck together.
