Get real or get lost
Scroll through your social media feeds, and you’re bombarded with a never-ending reel of life’s "highlight reels." Flawless selfies, exotic vacations, humble brags about career wins and personal milestones.
It can seem like everyone else has life perfectly figured out except you.
But behind those meticulously curated personas lies a harsh truth - we’re ALL struggling with insecurities, setbacks, and private battles invisibly unfolding behind closed doors.
The "fake it till you make it" mentality has created a culture of performative positivity that’s suffocating authenticity.
As writers, we have a chance to push back against the fake, picture-perfect personas people show online. Through our writing, we can bring more honesty and realness to what people read.
Society craves vulnerable storytelling that makes them feel seen, understood, and less alone in their imperfections.
When was the last time you read an article that was completely honest and open? That didn’t just talk about the successful end but showed the full journey. Articles that share the difficult challenges, feelings of doubt, and emotional costs along the way?
Articles like that, telling the whole real story, are very hard to find these days.
Your readers will deeply appreciate and value that kind of true realness. People are tired of seeing so many fake, perfect lives on their social media. They want the unfiltered, honest human experience - the messy and uncomfortable parts too.
So when you write about a big success, don’t leave out the difficult journey to get there.

Talk about the hard work, struggles, and setbacks behind the scenes.
Share the failures you went through and how you overcame them. Open up about the insecurities and self-doubts you battled.
Your readers want that real, vulnerable truth.
Wrapping Up
The more open, honest, and real you can be in your writing, the more people will want to read your work. We all need reminders that we don’t have to pretend to be perfect for others. It’s okay to show the parts that aren’t polished or flawless. Those imperfect, flawed pieces are what make us human.
