“We need to keep all resources busy!!!”

“We need to keep all resources busy!!!”

Three parts. One from a feeder process.

One integration point. Requiring all three for the end product.

How do we get the end product as fast as we can?

“Make sure that each work centre is busy!!!”

…so the capacity of each work centre is blocked from finishing the parts required for integration!

Feeder line is busy (other word for overfilled).

WAIT.

We can only integrate all parts if we have them all present at integration point / assembly.

How do we then make sure that all feeders are actually providing what the integration point / assembly needs?

We make them empty of work (except bottleneck / capacity constraint resource), so they are free to do What the integration point needs.

…and then we just need to release the work package early enough to them.

Feeder line is empty.

Since they can no longer be busy with the wrong work, the part should arrive on time and in full (OTIF) at the integration point / assembly; provided, of course, if there are no disruptions.

…and that makes sense, for us getting only paid for the finished items and NOT for being busy.

Transfer it to your context

Where are you frustrated because of the right part missing at a integration point / assembly?

Where in your personal life? Where at business?

Check out your state of flow for a project context like engineering or combined with physical flow with the free Dolphin Study.

It’s just a couple of questions and you get your individual 360° benchmark on many other parameters that determine your state of flow. And it’s 2-in-1: It includes an indication of the true potential work flow.
