Isn't it high time we reconsidered our approach to addressing the challenges within our education system?
This week it was announced that the overall total target for recruitment to teacher training for both primary and secondary was missed by 38 per cent, 50% for secondary and 4% for primary. The OECD's PISA results show that?England’s secondary school pupils have risen up the international rankings for their attainment in maths, but there has been little comparable improvement in reading and science.
Also of great significance from the PISA results is that, as The Education Policy Institute said, the UK now has the “second lowest average life satisfaction of 15-year-olds across all OECD countries”.?We also heard the outcome of the coroners report that highlighted that the?Ofsted inspection contributed to the death of headteacher Ruth Perry.?
During last week the FED held a focussed stakeholder event to begin to look at the detail around the proposals we shared in our July 2023 National Education Consultation Report?on the architecture needed for our education system to better support longer-term planning.?After the Christmas break we will begin to share some of this detailed thinking across our education system for further input.
