We need a better present for younger generations!
In her annual State of the Union speech, President von der Leyen mentioned the need for a better future for younger generations and we couldn’t agree more. We hope to see the same commitment to a better present by ensuring the implementation of the EU Child Guarantee and the European Semester. Children are rights holders now and their needs must be addressed from their early years. “Social partners have shaped the Union of today” said von der Leyen; but in the face of rising anti-human rights groups in Europe, we ask for more protection and collaboration between the EU and Civil Society.
Last week, the Eurochild team joined survivors, young people and child rights organisations from all over Europe in front of the European Parliament with a stunt to ask leaders to ‘clean up the internet’ from sexual predators and protect children online. Together with many public figures and human rights experts, we also signed an open letter to urge EU leaders to support an EU proposal to safeguard our children from perpetrators of child sexual abuse and grooming online.
This week, we would like to share with you an overview of the challenges that children in migration face due to EU policies in place and gaps in child protection at member state level. They require specific and appropriate support as they are a particularly vulnerable group.
