We need ALL kinds of Maps
SkyBase certainly didn't invent digital or paper maps but we designed our system to be a proper, simple and practical utility for a specific purpose ... one that is even at first glance, an oilfield map, able to assist navigation in areas that no other map can. The richness of the data (radio frequencies and kilometer posts) and the way in which it is displayed creates a theme, so every map is a thematic map ... ours is called PatchMap.
Wherever PatchMap is found, we try to keep it looking the same so that it is identifiably PatchMap not for our own prowess but more so that users who might use PatchMap in one format will instantly recognize a trusted friend in another format ... makes life easier and more comfortable for everyone.
Keeping maps current is critical, especially in a world that is changing so drastically every day ... that's why PatchMap is updated every single month in all the formats that are available. Those by the way are: Garmin GPS; MapSource/nRoute for offline Windows PC; MapBuddy for internet connected Windows PC which connects with Garmin GPS units for transferring data back and forth; PatchMap-Web for dispatching crews or creating ERPs from any internet connected, large screen device; via an API for enhancing the base maps for tracking companies or your use within your own software; as automated download updates for your GIS system ... and just around the corner, a smartphone app that will not only work within cell connectivity but will be able to take chunks of data including the basemap offline.
If you are looking at an oilfield map, it should be PatchMap or enhanced by PatchMap ... wait, we didn't talk about paper maps ... guess what, paper maps are perhaps the most important version. Although not alterable after the finger hits 'Print' it always works ... power or no power. The linked article explains how paper is still king ;-) https://goo.gl/Nti2qG
