We Need to Accept Core Perfomers

We Need to Accept Core Perfomers

Sometimes we need to just accept people for who they are, without trying to improve them. While there is no shortage of good intentions on how people can improve, there are plenty of people out there who excel at what they do, despite their shortcomings.

For example, I know an accountant who thrives with structure and loves doing predictable work.?She is dependable, accurate and very good at following instructions.?One improvement area that her supervisor identified was her need to be more creative.

But this was tough for her.?No matter how hard she trained and tried, there was no noticeable improvement.?She just thrived within structure and was lost without it.?Maybe if she was innately creative and had the aptitude to solve complex problems, she might have progressed faster in her career.

It’s definitely good to give people opportunities to rise. This is SOP in most companies. Doing certain core tasks, however can be very welcome. I’m sure there are plenty of opportunities for people who are accurate, dependable and who can follow instructions.?Not everyone is going to change the world with their brilliance and forward thinking.

People should feel proud to contribute and excel at what they are good at. They should not feel inadequate or pressured to conform if they do not live up to standards set by society.?Often one’s imperfections are a source of security, productivity and enjoyment.
