Question from a subscriber: "We are a multi-advisor firm with five different advisors who have nothing in common. How do we create one unified brand?"

Oh, financial advisors.

You are going to run into all types of horrible problems when you focus on yourselves like this.

Everything in marketing has to be about THEM.

(the client)

To repeat my favorite mantra:

THEM NOT YOU

THEM NOT YOU

them not you

THEM not YOU

tHeM nOt YoU

ustedes no vosotros (spanish)

?

Take these actions TODAY:

  • Focus your brand on the information or questions that the client has, not on the background, experience, licensing, and credentials of your "multi-team"
  • Ask yourself these questions. "What is the one most prominent characteristic of this company? What benefit does that cause all clients to experience?"
  • The answer should be the foundation of your brand.
  • If there is absolutely nothing that stands out as a prominent characteristic, you've got some soul searching to do. Go back to the drawing board and get a differentiating advantage before worrying about marketing.

?

Yeah?

Yaaaaah.

BOOM - there you go, today's marketing tip for ya!

Sara Grillo, CFA, excellent suggestions. RE: "We are a multi-advisor firm with five different advisors who have nothing in common. How do we create one unified brand?" In addition, they need to focus on common values. The five advisors at the firm may have different personalities and different professional strengths. All of that is good, those are strengths of the firm. It means your firm will be more skilled at working with a wide range of clients. However, they need to have one thing in common: Values. If these advisors do not share the same values, some of them should not be at the firm. I am talking about the values of putting the client first, serving the needs of the client instead of your own needs, working hard and respecting one another's differences and what they bring to the team. And you need a leader who can reinforce these values and bring the team together and create an exciting shared vision of where the firm is going. It is not easy but the hard work is worth it and it is exhilarating to experience the progress as it is being made. Dr. Donald Moine Business Growth Strategies
