So much is happening already in the first quarter of 2025, it is sometimes hard to keep current. Dear Groupies, we have a lot to talk about in this month's newsletter....

But first, we must address the recent news of President Trump advocating for English as the primary language in the U.S.

We are advocating that industries must still prioritize the needs of their limited English-speaking employees and partners. In sectors like healthcare, manufacturing, and customer service, clear communication is essential for safety, efficiency, and compliance. Language barriers can lead to workplace accidents, misunderstandings in legal or medical settings, and decreased productivity. Ensuring multilingual support—through translation services, bilingual training materials, and interpretation—helps foster inclusivity, reduce liability, and improve overall performance. We stand for Language Services.


This month's newsletter will talk about AI and how it is affecting the world of translation; and where TLG stands in the sea of AI changes.

AI vs. Human-in-the-loop

It has been around awhile, but it seems like in the last year AI has disrupted the system. It's amazing capabilities, ease of use, and incredible speed have made it a sought-after solution.

Google Translate, ChatGpt, DeepL, Bing... all of these platforms now offer translation. Choose your language, enter the information, and boom. Translated material. It is like having an intelligent language assistant at your fingertips. Using advanced technology, it instantly converts words, phrases, and even entire documents from one language to another.

Unlike human translators, who may take hours or days, AI translation works in mere minutes or seconds. These tools continuously learn and improve, becoming even more precise over time. Today’s AI-powered tools are starting to grasp context, slang, and cultural nuances, making translations more natural and accurate than before.

So, what is the concern? There is still room for errors, and they can be costly.


Here are some potential problems that can arise when using AI for language translation:

  • Loss of Context & Meaning – AI may struggle with nuanced meanings, cultural references, or expressions; It may not recognize culturally sensitive phrases or concepts, potentially leading to offensive or inappropriate translations.
  • Mistranslation of Critical Information – In healthcare, legal, or business settings, errors in translation can result in serious misunderstandings, legal issues, and can be a matter of life or death.
  • Struggles with Rare or Less-Common Languages – AI translation works best with widely spoken languages but can be unreliable for dialects or languages with limited training data.
  • Lack of Industry-Specific Expertise – AI may misinterpret technical jargon, medical terminology, or legal language, leading to incorrect or misleading translations.
  • Security & Privacy Risks – Some AI translation tools store or process data on external servers, raising concerns about confidentiality and compliance with privacy laws.
  • Inconsistencies in Long Documents – AI may translate the same term differently throughout a document, creating confusion and inconsistency.

For high-stakes or complex translations, a human-in-the-loop approach—where AI translations are reviewed and refined by professional linguists—helps ensure accuracy, clarity, and cultural appropriateness.

Now, picture the nurse typing up the After Visit Summary, sending it to print, and within 15 minutes, receiving copies in both Spanish and English—ensuring you leave with clear, accessible information about your care. No more attempting to decipher directions as a patient. Less readmissions for the healthcare facility.

How it works:

  • Summary is sent to print
  • Personal information is redacted within the system
  • Translation is done in preferred language
  • Translation sent to Human-in-the-loop for proofing
  • Translation sent back through system where information is reassembled
  • Output is printed in English and second language

Meet Renee Soltis-Baker, our incredible Director of On Demand Services, who is celebrating an amazing 9 years at The Language Group! Renee’s dedication and expertise have been instrumental in ensuring the success and growth of our on-demand services. Her leadership and problem-solving skills have made a lasting impact on the team.

Originally from Trinidad, Renee brings a unique cultural perspective to everything she does, and her warmth and positivity have made her a beloved colleague. When she’s not working, you can find her spending time with her naughty and spoilt German Shepherd, Arthur (or “The Articles,” as she affectionately calls him). Together, they enjoy exploring the outdoors and sharing time together at home.

In addition to her love for her furry friend, Renee has a passion for gardening, where she nurtures her plants with care. And when it comes to cooking, she’s a pro in the kitchen, especially when it comes to crafting flavorful curries and roti that remind her of her Trinidadian roots.

Last year was especially exciting for Renee, as she married the love of her life! We’re thrilled for her and her husband as they embark on this new chapter together.

What is On Demand?

The On Demand department focuses on audio and video calls in real-time, with an interpreter just a click away and ready to assist. They sometimes take prescheduled appointments for the more exotic languages.? The Department has interpreters in two groups, US based and overseas.? Some accounts require ONLY US based interpreters, so those interpreters are set up differently.

The newest service addition to this department is On Demand Localization. This is on demand localization done in real time with a turnaround of approximately 15 minutes. More to come on this amazing service from TLG.
