We Make a Difference By Being Empowered
We were pretty proud to be named one of Dallas' 100 Best Places to Work. Gaining the recognition caused us to ask ourselves what that really means to us as individuals. So I sat down with our Marketing and Communications manager to answer a few questions about working for YourCause.
1. In your opinion, what makes YourCause more unique than other companies in Dallas?
The easy answer is that we’re one of the few for-profit companies who's mission is entirely focused on making the biggest positive impact on non-profits possible. There aren’t many companies in Dallas that can say that. The fact that we transacted more than $250M in donations in 2014 is powerful. But, there’s so much more to YourCause. I think the most unique aspect is just how transparent we are. Everyone is aligned with our mission and on the same page about the direction that we’re heading. It’s not like that in a lot of companies where transparency means nothing more than opening up our books to anyone who asks. We’re proactive about being transparent – transparent to our prospects, our clients, and most importantly, our employees. The level of transparency makes for some interesting discussions because it encourages everyone to question why we do things the way we do. These discussions sometimes just lead to an affirmation of our decision and other times to a completely new perspective.
2. How have you made a difference while working at YourCause?
I’ve been fortunate to start as a sales executive and over the course of a few promotions now lead the entire sales and marketing organization, so being able to just make a difference as we've built our organization from 20 to nearly 90 employees in 3 years has been really rewarding. Like everyone else in this company, we make a difference by being empowered to make our own decisions that push the company forward. At the end of the day I can feel good about the fact that with each new client my team brings on we’re going to have a tremendous impact on the non-profits the client's employees give their time and money to.
3. If your mom asked you what you did for a living, how would you describe it?
Since my mom has actually been to our office before, she’d probably tell you that I’m a professional ping pong player by now. However, I was able to convince her to sit in on one of my demos. She was still a little perplexed by the end of it, but she got the gist – “you work with companies to provide them with an online platform where their employees can go to volunteer and give to their favorite charities and the companies can capture the data they need to tell stories.” She might not be quite ready to join the sales team, but I’d say she gets it :).
