We Made it Happen

Everything was planned, and everything was set up to be perfect for my Wounded Warrior Project gala that we had on March 3rd. My speaker came into town the night before, and we had a great dinner. I had 185 guests scheduled to be there, and everything was set up the night before. We were ready to go on that Friday, then we got a snowstorm, not just any snowstorm, but we had a record breaking snowstorm on March 3rd.?
Obstacles at Every Turn
The speaker that was scheduled to speak, got sick that morning and started throwing up. I was nervous, because I was sitting next to him and I thought that this event cannot happen if I get sick. But he immediately thought of the event called Headquarters and they called another speaker that lived in Columbus about three hours from us. She said, I will be on my way. She called me and said, I'm going to come, but I can't leave until 3:30.? My event was to start at 6:00. I told her that it would be fine, but to try and leave early, because we were supposed to get a snowstorm.? She ended up getting there in time, because she left a little early, but it took her about four hours to get there.? She did not want to drive home and decided to stay the night.??

The Event Did Not Disappoint
We had about maybe 10 guests that didn't show up, but everybody else came out in force wearing their boots, bringing their heels ready for a great event. And it was fabulous. The band was great, Motor City Soul. The event was great. The meeting house, Grand Ballroom in downtown Plymouth, did not disappoint. The food was amazing. You would never have known there was a snowstorm going on in the background.? I am now able to write a check to the Wounded Warrior Project for $50,000, because we didn't let it stop us.
The Power of Positive Thinking
How does that happen in your business? It doesn't have to just be in a gala, it can be your business or it can be in your family. When all of a sudden something throws a little wrench in it, are you getting upset and saying,”Oh my gosh, it's going to fail, because now my speaker is sick? Or are you thinking, “Okay, let's slow down and figure it out?”
We figured it out, and you can too.?
I would love to hear about an event or a time in your work or a time in your life when it threw a wrench and you could have just been a puddle crying on the floor.? Or tell me about a time when you just said “We're gonna make this happen”.? Let's talk about it.
